Okay, this one is in German but apparently, Google is testing a new layout for Google search (at least on mobile devices) which means they do not show the URL anymore. Those who found out were not sure why Google does it but it could be that Google indirectly or directly wants to promote URLs/websites that a person probably would not click on normally... The power of google never ceases to amaze me. This could be interesting, but I don't think personally it will make much of a difference. People are sheep and they will click on the first page links no matter the URL. I think most people use the title of a page and maybe read the short description, but the url is just not needed IMHO.
I do not click on sites like - bestproducts, bestreviews, best(keyword) etc. Even they are first tho.
You know, I think you might have a good point there. If I am looking for a certain product, if I see it has the name in the website URL I usually skip it since I am generally looking for reviews. Honestly, lately, I have been using Reddit to find information quicker so I haven't run into that for awhile. Excellent point sir.
That'd be an idiotic move, in my opinion. Urls are what differentiate one site from another. If I'm looking for iPhones I want to go to apple's website but how'd I know I'm actually visiting the official site if no URL is shown? Let's say I type iPhone and all first page results have the same title in pirpose as to take advantage of this: 1. Apple iPhone 2. Apple iPhone 3. Apple iPhone And so in... how would I differentiate one from another?
Yea you are right. I'm not use what they meant by this, but maybe sites with rich headlines will rank better.
I could see them doing some sort of "certified" symbol like twitter. Oh, another fun money grab by Google.
