Google March 2024 Core Update Released: bigger than before!

I have no choice but to fire my long-term writers and go completely AI at this point.
The update is not finished yet. Huge updates are usually finished within a week and sites can recover by time it's finished or shortly after.

Google has said this update will take the entire month to complete.

Some of the nonsense that is outranking me is a joke, so I can only conclude there is still much shuffling to go.

We need to remain calm and review and make decisions at the end of the month once the update has finished destroying the internet.

My friend, don't bother.

Any Google updates past 2020, the results are usually immediate. You will have a conclusive outcome after the first 2-3 days.

Also, if you ever read the comments at SERoundTable or WebmastersForum or any other place, you can see how bad it is becoming as days go by.

You remember September 2023 HCU? The outcome was very bad at the start, reports of people's many years of hardwork got wiped out. Spam was everywhere, and at that time people also went, "Just wait, it will improve in the coming days."

Then the HCU ended, and oh boy, the search results is just plain awful. Then November updates came and it did nothing but worsen it... Reddit started ranking at the top; spam pages and profiles were everywhere; PDF spam too.

Many SEOs at that time, again, said the same thing, "Let's wait... No way Google is going to allow such awful search results."

December came... nothing. January came... nothing. February came... nothing. Then this update happened and it pretty much worsened everything again.

It's like in an abusive relationship with someone who keeps telling you "I will change" but then goes on to cheat and abuse you. They are just stringing you along and giving you false hope that they will change, but it never happens.

Unfortunately, it's not the case anymore. Especially after 2023, if you got hit big at any point of these updates, you're done. Yes, you can recover maybe 10% but nothing more. Google is more strict now and these HCUs are adding onto each other. In the past, new update was invalidating some rules of the past, that's not the case anymore according to my experience.

Of course there's always hope...

Dude, did you steal my site’s screenshot? I wouldn’t be too worried though, when the dust settles those sites will rise again!

One of my sites which I just noticed tanking was also 100% human written, and the site has been around for 11yrs…

Almost all my aged & authority sites are tanked. They are all whitehat, some of them have AI content, some of them have writers. But entertainment niches got hit the worse. I have no choice but to fire my long-term writers and go completely AI at this point. (they were already hit hard with the September HCU, but this one completely hammered it).

I still have plenty sites that are dead since the update, but a couple have had movements like this as of this morning.

Update isn't over.

I wish this was true and we'd all see an improvement very soon but.. after the last hit on Thursday the site has been slowly falling into an abyss with no clear signs of recovery. Though I am giving it until the end of the month, I sense this is it's end.

Do you remove AI content?

No, this was without touching it.

I have other sites that have also been killed in the last update. Some I have removed the older automated content, some I have 301'd older automated content and others I have set to de-index older automated content via meta robots "unavailable_after" tag. 3 tests running and I wait to see which (if any) is the most effective remedy.

None of the sites have a manual penalty, so it seems the penalty is algorithmic and in theory the site should bounce back after whatever is at fault is removed.

I run an established German news website focused on automobiles. The site is about 12 years old with a DA of 61 and a strong link profile. It has around 31,000 (!!!) manually written blog posts. Of these, about 1,500 are copy-and-paste press releases from 2020-2023, and over the past year, there has been a lot of AI content. However, this AI content is not produced in bulk and is 100% human-edited. These are topic-relevant posts that add value for the reader. In August, my site's daily visitors dropped from 30,000 to about 16,000, and since last week, to about 8,000. I have absolutely no idea why. It's insane...

I am surprised people still pay writers for content... AI is not a problem. Google is. Once your website is hit it is done. You may get back some ranking maybe 10-20% of what you had before but nothing more. Prepare for the worse and don't spend more time and money on it. It won't make any difference.

Well said.

And greetings from SERoundTable, friend.

This update successfully destroyed most of my network :) Good job Google, so many years lost for almost nothing ... After so long time on keep trying to build websites (music/videos/porn/blogs), etc. Google success to just finish me off again :)
I have the feeling Google is keep looking after each move i make... each time i move to a new network niche is like after a few months Google makes a new strong update and f**k it up but before i move to that niche they never bother with it before ... and this keeps happening for the past many years :)
I really believe Google has its eyes on a few people and they keep checking what they are doing next so they know what they need to fix next.
My last big blog is in English, and 4 years old, and success to keep dropping the USA traffic from 9000 per day i ended up with 800 per day before fully removed from Google :)
Plus, these Youtubers who talk too much on YouTube... they see some ideas/strategies, etc and they go fast and make a video about it. They keep reading BHW and after keep generating Youtube videos and now they are mad their networks got destroyed (PS: I'm happy their network got wiped too)
Anyway, for me making Blogs was just a passion now because the income is just getting smaller and smaller each month with these ads. To make like $200/$300 per day you need a good amount of USA traffic where everyone is fighting ... and after 16 years of keep building websites, i can say this is already stupid ...
Right now I'm not even sure to stress your self-building websites :) You can make more money blasting YouTube videos with AI than trying to make Blog Posts. (No servers and other extra expenses just make a few YouTube channels and blast a lot of videos per day)
Good luck to everyone who keeps trying to fight this war with Google, i keep seeing a lot of people who said "My content is good, your content is shit" Don't worry next update you can be next :)

So what is your strategy? Just create AI auto blogs?

I honestly think Google want to kill SEO. Lots of sites targeting long tail keywords have been hit, again. Keyword research will become obsolete soon. Unless you have authority, you have nothing.

Blogging is dead. I know, been said many times before, but it really is unless Google changes things, but I think this is the direction they want to go in, it isn't by accident.

I see people saying they will start new sites, why exactly?

It's such a catch 22, and Google are just messing everything up.
