I'm trying to figure out why two people from the same city are getting different search results in Google. Obviously this creates a problem for those of us trying to do local seo.

I made a friend of mine adjust his Google settings the same as mine (log out of gmail, set the same city location etc) and we still get slightly different results. This should not be the case.

Anyone experiencing the same problem in regards to local SEO?

even most of the serp rank trackers can't deal with this problem.. every one of them gives different results and when I check from home/college it give 2 different results. not much but slightly, it changes depending how close you are to the business, from what I have noticed if you tick "business serves customers at their own location" and select like 10-15 miles radius from the city center all is good.

If you want to see what results are shown on default then use Google's Ad Preview tool and select the appropriate geographic location: https://adwords.google.com/d/AdPreview/

It's designed for AdWords, but works the same for checking your SERP without factoring in people's search settings.
