I am trying to use the Google Keyword Planner but it looks like they now only show ranges. I tried the MMC method but also gives ranges instead of exact matches. What is a good alternative for this?

ya, thats bad. They changed it a couple of month ago. Now we only see 100-1000 instead of 500. They want to store their knowledge which is obviously worth a lot. If there is any heck to get the old numbers back I would be interested as well.

There should be a message at the top of the Google Keyword Planner that states that you need to have an active campaign in order to see the values rather than the ranges.

This means you need to have a credit/debit card on your account and an approved campaign that is currently showing ads for keywords.

There doesn't seem to be a minimum spending limit as I spent only about $10 last month. I also paused my campaign for about 16 hours, but I never saw any data ranges.

If you pause the campaign, you'll see data ranges again and the following message after some time (I did this on a newer Adwords account I created just to test this). I don't do a lot of keyword research in one day, so I'm unsure what the actual "limit" they're referring to is.

If you want to use the Google Keyword Planner,

As for alternatives, either pay someone to do your keyword research, or subscribe to a service like Market Samurai, SEMrush or Longtail Pro.

I use kwfinder even though it is only once a day, I just make sure to type another keyword in the next day. In addition I use MOZ, which allows 5 keyword searches a day. They both give good stats and competition data, but if you need to input a ton of keywords at once you might need more options.

What service do you suggest to get? I was thinking about semrush (group buy) or longtail pro.

Is longtail pro affected by this problem? It seems like market samurai is.

I wouldn't know, I just use the Google Keyword Planner and research the SERPs manually and with Ahrefs.

I know a few keyword researchers here are still using Longtail Pro, and I even bookmarked it a month ago as I was going to purchase it (I still might).

My data is fine seeing as I have active campaign also.

But if you don't have that, I can personally recommend SEMRUSH.

I would recommend using keysearch and semrush, it's a good combination for me.

I use proranktracker and paste in keywords I want to rank, it will show exact match volume searches based on Google after few hours or a day
