I'm a newbie IMer, so I don't know if there is a distinction between ranking and index.

I don't know if these are accurate, but I've been using the "seo centro" website to check my website ranking for this keyword I'm targeting.

They show my website not found in google.

My website is a few months old and has about 230 backlinks per Majestic SEO. yet, I'm not ranking?

I do have one page that is copy pasted from another website, but I credit that website with a link back to it, if that helps at all.

I don't know what other factors would keep my website from getting ranked. I follow basic SEO 101 when writing and putting in keywords... so I'm now sure what's up. SEOMOZ gives my websites an A grade for SEO... so I don't know what's going on.

    Input would be awesome!

It depends on your keyword man, if its super duper competitive then 230 backlinks is not enough to do the work. Plus you gotta see if your backlinks are HIGH quality enough to make any SERP changes. I had a site which is having about 2000 backlinks (mostly from low quality Scrapebox comments) right now in a very competitive market and still no ranking when I last checked with Market Samurai.

There are lots of things to consider when it comes to ranking. First, check how difficult your keywords are that your trying to rank for. Check your competition!! Trying to get Quality links and also diversify your backlinks too.

One thing to keep in mind is that rank checkers like seo centro will only check the first 50-150 results...so you might be ranking just not very good. Also, use site:domain.com in google to see if you are indexed.

Ya use site:domain.com in google to see if your even indexed. Also is this a brand new domain, or an older one you bought from someone, could of been deindexed in google before.

Yes, it is indexed, thanks guys. I guess it's just very low in the listing that it doesn't even show up :(

I used google analytics and it showed very low competition. All the websites on first page don't even have the keyword in the domain name.

    Hmmm...

But to clarify, does google care if you have copy/pasted content?

SEO Centro sometimes doesn't work. Try a few of the other rank checkers and you may find that you are ranking and SEO Centro is just broken at the moment. I tend to use this guy's one to do quick checks:

I did a search on some long tail keywords and I am ranking for them. So... I just need way more backlinks?

I'm considering setting up some web 2.0 articles and then paying for backlink blasts to those web 2.0 sites... does that sound good?

PS: I deleted the article that was copy/pasted....

You just need some Quality links and Unique content.

SEO is not a quick fire thing , It takes time to get decent results :)

I use this tool on the link below... it checkes Top 1000 results and also you can set to check Google SERPs for different country if you target specific country.

Ouch that report was super discouraging. You'd figure, that with 1000 pages, I'd at least be in there SOMEWHERE. My website is SEO optimized and there are a few backlinks to it, what the hell?

    :(

This is a good idea. Do some blasts using SB or Xrumer to your web 2.0s and any article directory's you have articles in. If you don't have those programs I am sure someone here on BHW would do it or you can try Fiver.
