    Hello BHW brother and sisters,

I just checked my webmaster tools for one of my old sape sites and I saw that my manual spam penalty for unatural links has been revoked. I received the message today but am still nowhere on the serps. Any idea how long it will be before I get some sort of bounce back? Has anyone dealt with this before?

    Thank you for your help.

Reconsideration request for http://www.123456789.com/: Manual spam action revoked - October 24, 2013

We received a reconsideration request from a site owner for http://www.123456789.com/.
Previously the webspam team had taken action on your site because we believed it violated our quality guidelines. After reviewing your reconsideration request, we have revoked this action.

You can use the Manual Actions page in Webmaster Tools to view actions currently applied to your site. It may take some time before recent updates to your site's status are reflected on this page and in our search results.

Of course, there may be other issues with your site that could affect its ranking. Google determines the order of search results using a series of computer programs known as algorithms. We make hundreds of changes to our search algorithms each year, and we employ more than 200 different signals when ranking pages. As our algorithms change and as the web (including your site) changes, some fluctuation in ranking will happen from time to time as we make updates to present the best results to our users.

If your site continues to have trouble in our search results, please see our Help Center for help with diagnosing the issue.
Thank you for helping us to maintain the quality of search results for our users.

If the sape links kept you up in the ranks before manual action, obviously removing them along with the penalty will mean you can start fresh-ish...that is why you might have no ranks.

I'd say within a week you'll see it back though it's funny that one of your inner pages with no links is ranking for #3 but that's Google for you. If you don't see your sites rankings come back within a week I'd send a message to them asking how long the update will take. A week should be long enough for the change to take effect so I think by then you'll see it back.

Hey - went through this recently with a client.

Like everyone else said, if you did a link clean-up, don't expect to bounce back as high as you were. A client I was working for was 3rd for their keyword, got a penalty and dropped off the face of the earth.

Once we removed the penalty without any additional work after about two weeks the sight climber to 13th. From there we started link-building to get it up again.

In addition, there's a difference between manual and algorithmic penalties. If you cleaned up the manual penalty but the site still isn't coming back after a couple weeks, you may ALSO have an algorithmic penalty (Penguin, Panda, etc.)

Yeah, the big thing here is you might also have an algorithmic penalty.

My site recently had the manual penalty revoked, but I am pretty sure my site had an algorithmic penalty too. But, I disavowed most of my links so I think things should shake up soon for the site.

The links powered you once - they were the reason you ranked. Then Google spotted them - you removed tham (and therefore have no reason to rank anymore) what you havenow is a clean slate to create good links

You're not "bouncing back" you're starting again - and need to replace the power the "bad" links had before they were discovered with "good" ones that you won't have a problem with in the future.

    So start making good links.

Below is what I experienced on two of my websites:

2-3 days, your site will appear once again for your keywords.. probably at page 5+

maybe a week or so later, you'll gain about 75% of your rankings

in about 1 more week, you'll gain 100% of your rankings

edit: by 100% I was referring to the rankings you had BEFORE spamming the shit out of your website!

    SO here's another update...

A week ago my spam penalty was removed. Within 48 hours I was back up to all my positions.

Today, exactly 1 week later, I am nowhere again and have done no backlinking in weeks...

Waiting to see if it's a dance.

    Someone who gives updates!

Nice one - and appreciated, many come here and give us an issue, or tell us a system, then never report back.
In other words, for information purposes, it was a waste of frikking time.

Likely to be a bounce of course. Mozcast has SERP noise running very high at the moment.
Also check your competition. How good are thjeir profiles, sites and links.
With your current "clean" linking profile, where do you think you deserve to be in comparison?

Update.. Not sure if this matters but when my reconsideration request was approved the links (link:mysite.com) was empty. Now after the second crazy drop is serps my old link locations are coming up again but my links are still not there.

Bouncing back is a misconception. By removing the links you removed all of your link juice and therefore you need to
add new, better links to start ranking again.

true. However. I was on the last spot on page 1 before I went sape. Now, I am not in the top 150 again. So in theory by removing the link juice that claimed me top spot, I should have still remained at least in top 20... SO now it must be some algorithmic penalty I need to figure out..

I will be back with more updates as they occur

Glad that you are keeping us updated! Interested to see if it comes back next week after some more time has passed. Are you building more backlinks or waiting it out to see what happens?

Right now I am building nothing.. I am in a wait and see mode. If no action within 3 weeks I will start a campaign.

Update 11/8/2013 - Okay this is weird!!! Is it possible to have a algorithm penalty based on too many city state references? Let me explain and maybe this can help a few out there...

Before my penalty I was everywhere. A brick and mortar business. Now I am back to my positions but not for any search terms that contain city and or city or state.

    For example:

Chicago Car Rentals = #150 spot
Chicago Illinois Car Rentals = #178 spot
    Car Rentals = #3 Spot

    WTF???

I am doing more research but am not ranking for any term that contains a city or state. My site is optimized for it and contains it in the title, descriptions, etc......

BTW this was a sape penalty...
