Just found this to be quite interesting.

I thiunk many people tought that already , that site loading time played some role on google rankings, but now its official.

Ok, this means that were gonna need to use css sprites, the smallets code on pages possible but also that who can afford a premium host is going to have some advantage over the others who cant?

And that also means that if you want a better ranking youre gonna need to host your website in the currently country of the page, orelse those high latencys are going to kill your ranking?

    Heres the http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2010/04/using-site-speed-in-web-search-ranking.html

Old news, don't know why they just announced it. They had a speed check in the webmasters control panel since a long time ago

lol, no, you are actually right, they announced it a few days ago, but in reality there was a speed testing panel in google webmasters since a long while ago

Google said in an interview (somewhere, I forget) that it will only affect 1% of search queries, so don't get your hopes up about usurping that guy in the #1 spot by running YSlow against your site.

That would be nice, though, if it were the case. :) YSlow is your friend.

Yeah, it'll only come into play if there are two sites that can't be split.

Relevancy and backlinks are still number 1.

First of all, it's just 1%. Secondly, I think as long as your site speed is "OK", everything else wont be affected. Which mean if your site is slow then it will affect your site SERPs but if the site speed is good enough everything else is not affected

It's probably to filter out the annoying 20 minute loaders which is really convenient.

Absolutely right. If your site loads a few milliseconds quicker than your competitors it won't make any difference in the serps whatsoever, yet there'll be seo nerds compressing files as I type.

lol I left somebody in control of a site not so long ago... when I returned after a few months, found out they'd managed to get a few of the pages > 8MB!

I read this the other day. I find it a little ironic that, at least on my sites, yslow and pagespeed point to adsense and google analytics as major bottlenecks.

I think i'll be removing analytics.
