Google Pleads With Firefox Users To Stop Using Yahoo
    Mar. 16, 2015

Google suffered a noticeable defeat in November. Mozilla, the company behind the web browser Firefox, decided not to renew its relationship with the search giant, instead signing a five-year deal to make Yahoo the default search engine on the browser.

Since then, Yahoo's share of the search market has grown healthily, from 8.6% in Nov. to 10.6% today. And Google's has correspondingly declined: In February, its market share dropped below 75% for the first time since 2008.

While Google is still the clear market leader, it is still embarrassing for the company: Search is Google's bread and butter -- the company's name has become a verb synonymous with finding information online.

Google's displeasure is now becoming clear, Search Engine Land reports, with the search engine prominently asking Firefox users who do not have Google set as their default search to change when they visit the site.

It's a big message at the top of search results, taking up prime advertising space and pushing the actual information down the page. Here's how it looks:

And yes, my sites that are ranking well in yahoo and nowhere in google are now getting sales. I guess people to type: g00gle.com when they want to search, they just make use of the search.

And there is also the new Microsoft Browser coming with Windows 10 and Bing as default Search Engine..
Looks like Google gonna have to do some serious bitching to not lose more.

Thought, pretty sure they are not going anywhere so soon. Most kids doesn't even know what Yahoo is.

yea, yahoo did win a few percentage on google and google maybe overlooked this, but what? a whopping 2%? it might be significant for yahoo, but i'd say it's close to insignificant for google, all the more so, because it reached its top and won't continue, moreover in my opinion it will decrease again in time, if we look at the browser usage tendencies, firefox usage declines, chrome usage extensifies, android is kicking ass on the mobile market

google and yahoo aren't really playing in the same league for a long time now, yahoo would need a lot more than this to flip the table

Haha finally someone made a significant shot at Google. I wish that more users would turn to using Yahoo and Bing. I fucking hate Google and especially Google+ and ridiculious privacy invasions that they do. Facebook too, fuck that shithole

Snowball keeps on rolling. Those 2% can double in no time if this catches on. And these pathetic google tactics shows that they understand it really clearly.

Actually although Yahoo! made lots of mistakes (getting into bed with Microsft was one) it was a good search engine, to see Firefox making it a default provider is good for competition and on over on G.

For me and am sure millions of other peeps they have been the stable datum of search but how can we forget there immortal line of "play nice" and other shit messages, they are succesful but from a democatic point of view its time to give someone else a go. It would be nice (though probably impossible) to see Yahoo! on a firmer footing of say 40%+ in the search world purely for more choice, this is based of course on the premise that Yahoo can deliver equal or better results than G.

generally i could agree with the snowball part, but what snowball would that be exactly when the tendencies are working against yahoo? chrome gains a steady half percent in each month in usage and firefox loses half percent, FF at around 20% now, if this tendency continues, firefox will be close to non-existent in a few years, well, more than likely won't, but it can go easily under 10%, where IE is now

i couldn't really understand all the fuss about this when this was news at first and i can't really understand it now either, it's just too weak in itself and nothing more than a bit of prestige loss for google what they try to reverse now, who wouldn't, if they could?!

ha! i'd be inclined to agree with you except that google is telling people to switch back. that means they're taking that 2% pretty seriously.

if they do fall it won't be a sudden switch to yahoo, it will be a slow drip that sinks their boat and they know it. this is the first time they've lost points in 7 years and you can bet that someone is worried things will change.

a decade ago google was nothing, but now they're the king and they want to stay on top.

I hated Google's monopoly in the online search business. There must be some competition between G! and Y!. I bet Google never saw it coming. :p

I don't get it why people whose main income is from SEO (aka ranking in google) hate Google so much.

I just do not see Firefox dissapearing any time soon. There is group of people who will always require an alternative for Google products for various reasons. For example, Chrome eating insane amounts of ram, G+ sucking in general, insane cookie tracking policies etc, I am just writing the reasons that popped in my head why I hate G. And if Yahoo keeps on rocking their boat they might just re-think these absurd money grabbing policies and might listen to user needs. Competition is really good for us - users. Now they do what the hell they want because they have no serious competition to worry about. Until now.
