If you didn't see this coming, stop with SEO or be bummed out forever when Google brings out such things.

    Solution to this:

Make your site unique and a great experience so the users stick and your visitor stats grow.

Basic stuff here guys, combined with some sense

There's nothing new in that. If you want your affiliate site to rank well in Google or other search engines, you have to have your own rewritten copy and a blog with relevant content that passes copyscape.

What's the problem, make your own articles.
Don't expect to copy everything and expect to rank with a couple of backlinks.

Who does this anyways? I have mostly affiliate sites, and none of what's posted there affects me in any way.

Most of it is basic SEO 101 stuff.

"Our quality guidelines warn against running a site with thin or scraped content"

Solution: Use unique content of 800 words or more.

It looks like they are talking more about videos and images.

I really don't get it either then.. I thought it was not something new that google didn't like duplicate content with no added value. Isn't it common sense to rewrite stuff like amazon product descriptions if you wanted to rank on google. Also I read nothing about images in the blog post you linked to in the op.

You didn't read his post right. He said to get traffic elsewhere aside from using google.
