Reuters) - Google Inc has overhauled its search algorithm, the foundation of the Internet's dominant search engine, to better cope with the longer, more complex queries it has been getting from Web users.
Amit Singhal, senior vice president of search, told reporters on Thursday that the company launched its latest "Hummingbird" algorithm about a month ago and that it currently affects 90 percent of worldwide searches via Google.
Google is trying to keep pace with the evolution of Internet usage[IMG]. As search queries get more complicated, traditional "Boolean" or keyword-based systems begin deteriorating because of the need to match concepts and meanings in addition to words."Hummingbird" is the company's effort to match the meaning of queries with that of documents on the Internet, said Singhal from the Menlo Park garage where Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin conceived their now-ubiquitous search engine.

90% of worldwide searches is a lot. I can't believe what I'm reading.

It says that they launched the algorithm about a month ago. Are the changes already in effect or are they still rolling out? Has anyone noticed any drastic changes since then?

Personally, I haven't really experienced any major changes.

I guess that the effects of this changes will come in time, they announce it long time ago, the fact that they implement it one month ago - is nothing so important since they need to re-query all the data that they do have. It will take from my humble opinion up to 6 months to see some real effects, if will be some. Even do so, I said it before, you have to push up the hard work and continuing promoting your website

They named it hummingbird for a reason.

Study the hummingbird and you have broken the algorithm.

I am curious is anybody else noticing a drop in being able to tell what keywords are referring visitors to your site? I can't get the information lately in any of my keyword tools when Google is the referrer. Did I miss them taking that away?

This all makes sense. About a month ago I was seeing some drastic changes across all my sites. Aside from the 3 domains that got hit with unnatural links, the sites I have building links to slowly that should pass a manual review have shot up. I have even seen keywords steadily rising towards the front page for sites and keywords that I do not build links to.

No changes so far and i dont think there will be any, g has by now an enormous amount of data. And to implement a big change in the algos it would take months if not years to sort and go through it all. These are just small algo changes that affect as mentioned above the queries and their sorting to display more relevant content.

Cute names but evil intentions. Think of the humming bird as Google, collecting nectar (money) from a flower (your wallet) and you probably have an understanding of what this algorithm is designed to do.
