For the past few days, I am not getting the results I want. Specially Long tail keywords. I am not talking from ranking perspective, but from a user perspective. They have screwed up there algo and its giving me completely different results from what I am asking.

Is it happening with you guys too?

Of course google is screwing your site, otherwise I'd just ask to have 1st place on the 'P0RN' keyword.

Alrite to be more clear, lets take a recent example.

I searched for methods of branding marketing.

The results that I would have gotten some weeks or months back would include the keywords and will be very close if not exactly what I wanted.

    Recently,

Its giving me relevant stuff to branding and marketing and etc, but not what I need. Specially with long tail keywords.

Again to empashize, I am not talking about ranking, but search results from a user perspective.

I was searching for some information on some vintage helmets we found new in the box recently. Not really my thing, but we were curious to find out what they were worth.

With really specific keywords and model #'s I got a bunch of results I'd expect - and stuff NOT related at all. For example, I was getting hockey helmets that were new in online stores even though I had "vintage" as part of the long tail, AND I eventually added (note the minus) -hockey.

So yeah - I have kind of seen it. If you search for "(manufacturer name) vintage helmet model XYZ" I would NOT expect to see something that is only related to the word "helmet"

Google has this knack of screwing THEIR algo all the time, so nothing new that you are witnessing (about not getting expected results on that now-damned SE).

Don't just use longtail KWs, for example. Use a twist in your usual KW and check. E.g.: Use something like:
    brand marketing methods
brand marketing techniques OR tips OR tricks OR author

    Also try:

brand marketing techniques OR tips OR tricks OR author filetype:pdf

... then download some PDFs and get more details. Normally good knowledge is hidden in those PDFs, and you can take them anywhere with you on your smartphone, for example, to help you stay cam at your dentist's place! :D

    Hey OP,

As others have said, Google is most likely just testing new things with their algo. Could be related to hummingbird and the whole latent semantic indexing they've been implementing.

Just sit back and enjoy the ride :)

Well, there's this longtail keyword i'm watching and the number one used to be a page not containing the longtail in the title or anywhere the body. But the current number one has it everywhere. Both websites contain relevant information though. So it's a bit different than OP's experience.
