I use both Google Chrome and Firefox browsers for different tasks but just lately I am getting really pissed off with them.

About an hour ago I started typing up an article on a site editor, took me about 40-50 minutes as it was a really long article with lots of images and links.

As I was scrolling up and down checking for spelling errors etc the page froze for a second, nothing new there it happens all the time...........

    Then I get the dreaded:

    View attachment 52685

    Followed by:

    View attachment 52686

I know, I know. I should have copied it elsewhere, created it in word or whatever other backup method but I just didn't at the time. The online editor had no autosave feature so it was all gone!!

The fact that I lost my work is my own fault, I can't blame the browser, my PC, the dog, the cat or anything. 100% my own fault, I just needed a rant.

I feel better now, time to start over.

Why not use google docs, it saves constantly and when this happens your document should be ok after restarting the browser. Usually google docs saves everytime you change something to the document.

No, not a bad day, just a bad, very unproductive hour and I wanted to scream about it before I started over.

I usually do, was feeling a bit lazy today though.

I usually write my articles up in word then copy them over. Today for some reason I just decided to use the web editor, big mistake.

I got in the habit of anything over a couple of sentences writing it in Word so I can adequately check my writing. Believe me I have gotten burnt too by browsers usually when I'm editing a WordPress site.

Wordpress at least does autosave, there are still plenty of online website editors that don't save drafts though. Unfortunately for me I was using one of those at the time.

Last versions of Chrome are fucked up, eat too much memory & resources (probably due to memory leaks).

Just yesterday i was asked by IT manager of a company I'm working with, whether there is an alternative for Chrome. For developers complain that once Chrome is up and running, everything else is getting stuck.

Search for the plugin: Lazarus: Form Recovery

This one save all your forms (so also when you are about to post a long article), and if anything bad happen you can usually recover it (almost everything).
    Good luck !!

Google is killing Chrome with their bullshit.

In one of the last versions I lost the mouse cursor (the hand over the links), they added the app launcher to my desktop taskbar, custom extensions now makes chrome to annoy you and there is a fucking gray bell near my system clock from their fucking shit, battery consumption is higher than with FF or IE.

I hope they don't start to add some G+ crap to the menus or I will have to switch.

I'd rather go back to using my usual method of creating articles using word then copying them over. Won't trust chrome for my work again!!!

What else is running at the same time?
Do you also have a ton of tabs open?
Are there lots of rich media advertisements on the site(s) open?

    Install AdBlock and Ghostery.

Already have adblock, I run several things on my pc at the same time and yes I do have several tabs open. I know this will cause problems but its necessary with the stuff I'm doing at the moment.

Like I said, I'll just create articles in word and copy them over in future. I usually do but I was having a lazy moment earlier and just wanted to get this article written. Being lazy cost me an article and an hour of my time!!!!

Lazarus: Form Recovery browser extension auto-saves all forms as you type. Definitely worth installing for situation like that.

Yet another argument to stay away from The Cloud and mainframe-terminal computing.

Imagine if your entire computer was based "online," like connecting to a VPS...Then imagine if you couldn't access it. That's a catastrophe waiting to happen but it's so chic and trendy right now!

With all the online storage facilities there has been over the years it would have been very easy to keep your hard drive virtually empty whilst still having access to your files.

Potentially a disaster waiting to happen, just look at what happened to megaupload. Yes I know it was used for illegal file sharing and they didn't even hide that fact very well but some legitimate company's used them to store important documents believing them to be safe.

    Need I say more.
