I had to delete some inner pages, these pages are not linked to from anywhere on the web.

This is weeks later, google is still updating webmaster tools with these old pages as 404s not found.

How the hell is google finding these pages today if they were deleted weeks ago???

Right now I am at a point where I have more 404s then actual pages that exist!!!

Try 301 redirecting the URLs you deleted to the most relevant page and see what happens. I believe that should help.

It might be because the deleted pages have backlinks out there somewhere.

Also if you're like using WP it pings new pages/posts, this will get them indexed. Other platforms may have sitemaps, etc. that link to all created pages.

You probably have some internal linking still active on your site. Better to 301 redirect these index pages to some other pages. Too many 404s will affect the rankings.

Do you 301 them within webmaster tools? Like select them all somehow and point back to main domain?
