Feeling pretty crappy right now as I noticed the other day things on my main UK earner site took a drop big time. Basically google has rolled out the Panda update I think to the UK.

What did I do wrong .... I sponsored wordpress themes putting my link on free themes. Now I am pretty much screwed as I could appeal if I could clean up the links but most of these are encrypted and there are too many of them.

It is too early to say how much this is going to cost me but I am going to hurt, it feels like I just lost my job so need to start moving fast to keep money coming in ....

I never thought this day would come need to see just how many of my sites were hit and start building those that survived.

Has anyone recovered sites from google -50 penalty?

Im a little worried about this update too. Some of the profile type links that have been working well up to now seem to have taken a big hit for some of my UK sites too...

It would be useful to get a list of the sort of links that are no longer worth anything...

You know when it hits you see your site move from page 1 to page 6
also when you go into webmaster tools they tell you
The site was mostly white hat for years then when this recession hit I ventured to other ways ... I am just hoping I don't have to eat the family dog ;-)

Re what is panda update - this is what I have read it is called panda/farmer http://www.businessinsider.com/panda-slapped--googles-panda-update-changed-the-playing-field-2011-3

That's really scary. "Detected unnatural links" , that article suggests going in and removing all of them. Hmm..

(And I never heard it called anything but the farmer update until today)

Try -500 penalty for a whitehat site with handwritten content then come back to me. Just keep building links.

The reason for your drop in rankings can't solely be down to backlinks. If that's all the panda/farmer update was about, it would be too easy to destroy your competition - You'd just have to blast their websites with xrumer. I wouldn't even worry about those backlinks from WP themes.

The farmer update was more about quality content, or lack of it. Does your website contain quality, relevant and unique content?

I was always under the impression that inbound links can't hurt you much a little maybe but not what you're reporting. What outbound links do you have on the site?

This happened to a few sites and yes this is the only reason I can think of. It could be that someone complained and they did a manual check on my site I do not know.

The main site is a property site (FSBO) 12 year old with a subdomain that was a good earner held page 1 #3 for about 18 months.

The message show at the top of the page as messages

Yeah it certainly looks like it has hit the UK. I checked yesterday early afternoon at work and then again this morning. One client lost 1/3 of their indexed pages ouch!

Hmmm I'm hoping that I have got away with it then, that's if the update has hit UK!

Anyone else from UK notice a change?

Lost a 100% whitehat pr5 site to this update. All unique content and hand done backlinks.

Site was on the first page for all my main keywords, and now it is nowhere to be found on the first 10 pages.

Google webmaster tools doesn't show any messages regarding unnatural links.

This might explain the hit mine took as well then, went from #5 to #26, not such a massive drop but still significant for me. Although it did stay in #5 for Google UK, dropped for US...consider me confused.
