Two of my relatively new sites were de-indexed from my top search terms on Feb 1 with now slowdown or warning. These are two unrelated sites hosted on different networks in different countries. One is marketing an affiliate product, another is a tube site with ads and affiliate links.

Both sites have the top search term in the domain name:
    for example: my-search-term.tld

And Both were getting between 100 - 200 click throughs from Google a day.

Did anyone else get hit by anything on Feb 1?

Is there anything I can do to get listed again?

Were they deindexed or did you just slip in the rankings?

Sorry, should have chose a different word. They were not deindexed.
I can still find them if I search for the full domain name.

I wouldn't call it a "slip" in the rankings either, because I've been 30 pages in and the pages that were previously on the first page for certain terms are no where to be found.

Not sure what I can do about this, have never seen it happen like this before.

Sounds like you were sandboxed. Just keep building quality backlinks to your site in a natural manner and you will come out soon. How soon depends on exactly what you did to get sandboxed in the first place. But even worst case scenario is usually less than 3 months.

Thanks for the help, now I know the correct term for it at least! Sandboxed.

Is there any way of finding out why I might have been sandboxed? I think I'll have to review my sites against Googles policies.

I think I may have some canonical issues in my site map so that's where i'm starting.

You give headache to yourself, not Google. Do not check the rankings so often man... Just focus on quality content and linbuilding and one day you will suddenly see yourself on the top of the world! (or ranking at least lol)

Had this happen to lingerie site because of aggressive link building. Been 8 months and it still is not back.

If it was DCMA, I believe G would have De-inedxed your site not sand boxed it.

It might also be that you have run afoul of the new policy of user content above the fold, especially if you have a lot of ads that appear when the page loads instead of content. This is especially likely if it was a thin affiliate site.

    My 2 cents

Thanks for the 2 cents cldebo, on one site I didn't have any ads, but I did have roughly two outboud clickbank links on each page. On the other site I had just placed a number of ads and there were some technical issues with their placement, so this could be the issue here. I had a bunch of google clickthroughs from my top term the other day, but still no change in the rank that I can see. I'm working at getting these back on top!

I'm back baby! Well one of the sites is back. Yesterday nothing, today #4 for my top term and traffic is flowing again!

I took the troglodyte's advice on this one and carried on building links. I also made some changes. Fixed a technical/layout error and removed a lot of instances of my top term. Too much repetition.

I'm going to look up DCMA for my other site that has not recovered yet. I kind of suspect foul play with this one as the term was so competitive. Is DCMA the same as the new "Block all domain.com results" link that comes up in Google if you bounce back from a click?

    To OP:

To see if you are indexed, in google type:
    site:www.mydomain.com
    or
    site:mydomain.com

I know you meant slippage in ranking, but it is good to know this one as well - just in case.

I have been in the same situation many times, the problem most likely is that Google detected unnatural link building.

Remove any duplicate content if any from the site, fix any not found.
    Slow down on link building to minimum, rotate keywords when building links;

20% links in text around your keyword but not on your keyword (for example, "When I need business cards, I contact this company.")
30% links that include your keyword but also include other words in a sentence (for example,"I ran out of my brand new business cards today.")
30% links that include only your keyword (for example, "I love my business cards.")
    20% image links

Wait 2.5-6 months site should be back.
