I want to rank for my keyword in my country Australia....i.e my domain will end with a com.au extension .....question is would my keywork rank higher for people searching the keywork in my country rather than globally? even thought the home page is google globally? is there any recommendations that I should be thinking about.

Thanks

Use AU hosting and au extension. that's all.
My com/org/net sites reside UK and appear in the top 10 of google.co.uk while I cannot see them in the first page of google.com. yep, they are very new and I only do a little backlinks.
I am curious about the country setting in google webmaster, so I taked a experiment for targetting US audience with one site yesterday. Wait for my news :D

Meaby you would not belive me but I was about to create similiar topic. I will ask here if u all don't mind.

1. Can we use global backlinks from .com domains to link to our country domain ?
e.g I will link 100 links from .com domains to .de domain - what will happen ? It will be working?

2.What is I will use .net domain instead of country domain like .de . How till will affect on my position in google? Can I still get #1 ?

thank you Luffy_12,

but the question is about the domains also.. is it worth to buy county domain ( which is more expensive) than .net / .info domain ( when we are talking about SEO only.?

Just to add to the ranking if you have or have not purchased the country code addition...

Go to webmaster tools in your Google account and set a country preference. I have not did that myself but they have an area for that.
