2 days ago I've started building a blog for a very specific niche like " North Vancouver Hotels" ( NOT THE ACTUAL NICHE) and I don't really have that many back-links yet and no serious SEO done yet too.
The thing is that my website is about a Canadian city and I am expecting to get at least 95% Canadian traffic. Now the funny part is that my website is ranked 5th is google.com for my specific phrase and not in the 10 first pages of google.ca where I expect most of the traffic to come from.
    Why is that ?
BTW, i'm using a .com domain.

Where your site is hosted and the TLD extensions of the backlinks will play into a bit, but also remember Google.ca will be more competitive for a Canadian keyword than google.com will be. As someone who does SEO in Canada I can (on occasion) use the american rankings as an early indication that my campaign is working strong. Get a few .ca mentions and keep building - you're on the right track :)
