Noticed this earlier, saw a write up on it as well: https://mrs.digital/blog/google-tests-new-white-ad-labels/

I didn't even realize what the change was on the SERP results, I just noticed that the page itself looked "cleaner". This explains it. White button with green text > green button with white text in my opinion.

Any thoughts on if this will stick around? Change anything? Or just pure design?

Google is CONSTANTLY split testing small changes like this. It may or may not become the new normal. I've seen some pretty weird split tests over the years.

I noticed this as well. It looks cleaner, and the "ad" label is much less noticeable, which will lead to better CTR, which means more money for google. I think it will stay.

Not sure if others noticed, they was a period when they completely removed the "google ad" label and made it a balloon that pops up when they hover over the ad unit.
it was quite nice but it could of lead to alot of false clicks/leads that didnt covert properly so they switched it back

I personally like Bing's layout. It still shows which are ads, but to the average user they wont really notice they are clicking on ads. I theorize Bing's ctr is better because of this, as many people (including myself) wont click on ads of any type unless VERY compelling. Making the label less conspicuous will make more people overlook that it's an ad.
