Hi Guys and Girls,

Does anyone know why a site of mine would rank #1 outright in google.com.au and yet not even appear in the top 40 of google.com?

I also have a site that ranks #1 for google.com.au and yet against the exact same competitor sites, ranks #3 in google.com.

Does anyone know why in hell google is favouring these competitors in .com when I have alot more stronger links then these guys?

Thanks :)
Ellie

It depends where your backlinks are coming from. Besides the obvious fact that competition in local google is MUCH EASIER, you are ranked local/ international according to the source of your backlinks.

If you have backlinks from sites from australia (that's .com.au right?) then you ll be ranked in .com.au
To rank in .com you need more backlinks, and also from international sites as well.

1.google.au has much less competition.
2.your backlinks would be from .au or like sites.
3. try getting backlinks from sites which rank in first like 50 sites in google.com for your keyword.

We all can just guess when it comes to this question. The truth is that nobody know about googles secret algorithms. But the facts stated: au is local whereas .com is more international truly have some effect. It always harder to rank if their is more competion ;-)

geo targeted results and different data centers, plus you will rank for diff KWs in diff locations.
