So, I started typing in some keywords that I thought might hit well on Google and found a couple that I liked.

A certain phrase had 110,000 Global Monthly and Low competition.

Now, with me not knowing much about this, here is my question.

The keyword phrase is on a popular topic but I should I make the phrase the domain? & yes it is available.

If NOT, how do I implement the phrase to get those searches to come my way and does the domain need to be at all relevant to the phrase?

Just trying to gather more information and learn all I can.

Just to make sure, did you use Exact option when analyzing the keyword? There's a few choices on the left side called Broad, Exact and Phrase, for the best and most accurate results you should use Exact.

If you find a great keyword, the best possible way to use it is to get a .com EMD (Exact Match Domain). Let's say that your keyword is "cheap seo services", you would ultimately want to get cheapseoservices.com, but if that's not available .net or .org will also do. Now if none of these is available you have a few choices. Please notice that these are just personal opinions and some people here might disagree with some of these:

    1) You could add a letter in the beginning or in the end of the domain name. CheapSEOServicesX.com or something. I don't really like this option but some people are reporting that they can rank these domains pretty well.

    2) You could try to find another keyword related to the one you are interested in and buy an EMD with that keyword. Then you create posts and pages focusing on the main keyword. For example you could have a blog seoserviceparadase.com and have a page Cheap SEO Services with an url of SEOServiceParadase.com/cheap-seo-services.

Okay, I'm actually quite tired right now so can't figure our any other possibilities, stupid me! One more thing is that you might want to keep the domain relevant to the keyword you are focusing on. Google is not too fond of a domain like "BestPieRecipes.com" having a page for Cheap SEO Services ;) Keep it relevant and focus on your main keyword + avoid keyword stuffing.

If I left something unexplained or you want some help with the keyword, feel free to pm me. I do lots of domaining and I own over 100 EMD's from various niches. I'm not going to steal your keyword but I can give you some advice if you want to.

Definitely get the domain (if available). Though, it sounds like you selected broad or phrase, rather than exact. Double check.

    @shelton sellers,

Good question you have here. There has been some debate lately about the effectiveness of EMD's. They are still a very good tactic when trying to rank for competitive keywords however they are not as effective as they once were. I wouldn't rely on it to do all the work for you.

Check out this post from SEOMoz on the subject,

Also check out this post on over optimization and EMD's,

Hope this gives you an idea of how effective it will be,

    Shawn

If there is one keyword in EMD not avaible just put a number after it like keyword24.com or keyword1.com I saw a lot of sites which works like that and rank very well.

make sure you check broad, exact, phrase when searching for keywords and look at the Google Search Network Column since that provides you the amount of people searching monthly on that particular keyword. It only provides that information for the exact keywords though.

    Good luck.
