Google Grabs Personal Info Off of Wi-Fi Networks
    by The Associated Press
    May 14, 2010

Google says it has scooped up snippets of people's online activities broadcast over unprotected Wi-Fi networks during the past four years.

The admission made Friday is likely to raise more worries about potential privacy breaches as Google gathers volumes of personal information through its search engine and other services.

Google picked up fragments of e-mails and Web addresses while its cars were photographing neighborhoods for the "Street View" feature on its mapping service.

The company says it only recently discovered it has accumulated about 600 gigabytes of data transmitted over public Wi-Fi networks in more than 30 countries. Google says none of the information has appeared in its search engine or other services.

This is the part that makes me laugh.

"Oh damn US government, a server with 600 gigabytes of others personal data, we didn't know about it at all, I swear!"

Hmm, why dont they mention the fact that the location of ALL WLAN`s in reach of the Googlomobile was logged with locations? AFAIK it is used to calculate a users location when GPS is out of reach (indoors).

Sorta, they actually were set up by the CIA through http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In-Q-Tel, so they're partnered with the government... this is why they get away with their crimes. Facebook too. Welcome to Scientific Tyranny 2.0. This is the Endgame...

There are too many conspiracy theorists on BHW. Just because you find something posted on the internet, doesn't make it true. lol

Theories? I just posted links to known facts. Please keep your Orwellian Doublethink in check. Just because you don't want to believe something doesn't make it false. Do your research and then maybe you can have an intelligent discussion of FACTS... instead of throwing out Ad Hominem attacks. Thanks!

I personally got screwed with Google adwords. I requested a refund, I got an email saying refund has been processed but never got the money after 5 months. All emails went unanswered.

This news didn't surprise me at all. They have too much power in the IM world and can pretty much do what they want it looks like.

600 gigs could be something, especially if this collected data is in txt file
if google "collected" 1:1 Blu-ray movie copies, you're right, it's not too much :)
