it's not mine. I ripped it from another site and it went pretty viral. Should I tell them I shot the video and am authorized to distribute the footage? Or is it too risky?

All I know is thats awesome. Lol. Contact the originator of the video person and see if you could act as their agent. Good Morning America airs it as you, the maker contacts them screaming fraud and you'll make the news again! Congrats. I still am giving this a LOL for the sake of you being contacted.

Whoah, thats a crazy turn of events. I'd play it safe though unless you want to have a lawsuit on your hands.

You should ask the specifics of how they're going to air it. If it's a one time run you're at a lot less risk than.. lets say.. they permanently host/link it or something related on their website etc.

Don't do it, even if it is a "one time airing". You can be sued big time for copyright infringement.

It depends dude. Are you from the US? Will they post your name? How much will they pay you? There are obviously risks involved, but sometimes you shouldn't be a pussy and weight the risks/benefits. If you have lots of assets, then you might get sued. If you have nothing to lose, then... hmmmm.

if you're concerned about repercussions, don't respond.

they can't air it without the owner's permission, which they believe is you. if you claim it's yours then you could end up getting sued by the content owner, as well as possibly open them up to a lawsuit. if you come clean, maybe they'll tell the original owner about you and he'll come after you.

would consider contacting the original owner

once you get over a certain $$ value where people consider suing you for whatever you made off it it airing, you also get to the range where they also try to sue you for damage to their reputation, lost potential business, etc.

First of all, are they offering you money, or anything? If not, the risk far out weighs the reward, which would be nothing. I doubt that the original owner would ever file a lawsuit if you did allow them to show it on their show, but you never know.

I have no clue how to find the originator.

Yeah, think I'll play it safe.

They said this in the email. "We would like to request permission to show this video on GMA (and across our ABC News shows and platforms, which is seen worldwide and on all media)."

    Yeah, too sketchy.

I'm from the US. I don't think they're paying me though.

    Yeah, I won't respond.

Yeah because there would be no way for them to track you through the CPA links....

Well, what would happen is the video owner would sue ABC, then ABC would in turn sue you. And I don't think you want to mess with a multibillion dollar networks' legal team.

If you want to be safe and in legal boundaries then don't give it to them, but if you want to be a badass, no caring mother fucker who gets his videos featured on Good Morning America, then go for it :D

i don't think you should do it. the owner could sue you, the show could sue you. so i also agree with everyone else who mentioned that.

don't listen to people saying 'just do it'. it's not them who are going to get in the shit.

Why do it if you're not making any money? It's just dumb to put yourself at risk if you're not going to make at least a few grand or something.

Also, it seems like they aren't paying you. I would say don't let them use it even if it was yours. I'm so tired of the big networks swindling people into using other people's content for free.
