Search for Moolah's exchange(I forgot the name). He's reputable and his services look interesting.

Cryptsy is a fairly well established one. https://btc-e.com/ is another one, there's tons actually. As far as the wallet goes, I'd opt for keeping your coins local via a wallet for your PC. Chances are you'll be fine either way, and maybe I'm just being ornery here, but I've seen enough bad stuff happen to some of these exchanges to not leave anything of any real value in them. I'd only move my coins there right before a trade or cash out, other than that they stay stored locally in an encrypted wallet.

hmmm..... so you mean I should get a desktop wallet rather than an online or web based wallet right?
Yeah even I was reading it in one of the wallet site they had a warning message stating that do not store large amount of coins and any loss or theft if occurred then they wont be responsible for the same. But if I keep a desktop wallet will that do good, say my computer crashes or I have to change my OS, then can I again install the same and get all my coins back, since what I have learned is if for some reason your computer goes bad then whatever is stored in the desktop wallet is lost.

In addition does a desktop wallet gives out an address? How do I cash out from my desktop wallet

P.S. - thanks for the links, will check it now and revert
