People would not act this way.

    "GREELEY, Colorado (AP) --

A dog stood guard over her owner's body for up to six weeks after the man committed suicide on the remote northeastern Colorado plains, authorities said.

Sara Baysinger of La Salle, Colorado, and her 2-year-old son, Lane, reunite with their German shepherd, Cash.

The body of 25-year-old Jake Baysinger of La Salle, Colorado, was found Sunday on the Pawnee National Grasslands about 75 miles northeast of Denver, Colorado. Cash, his German shepherd, was found beside him, thin and dehydrated but still alive. The dog had apparently survived by eating mice and rabbits, authorities said.

The Weld County coroner ruled Baysinger's death a suicide. The cause of death wasn't immediately determined but authorities found a gun nearby, the coroner's office said Tuesday.

"At least we know it's over now," said Baysinger's wife, Sara. "We'd been looking for my husband for six weeks, and this isn't how we wanted it to end. At least we can close this."

Baysinger was reported missing June 28. An extensive search failed to locate him, but Kip Konig, a rancher, saw the dog last weekend, went to investigate and discovered Baysinger's body and his pickup.

He said Cash kept running back to the pickup and jumping into the front seat.

"I got the sense she was trying to tell me where her master was," Konig said.

Cash was reunited Monday with Sara Baysinger and her 2-year-old son, Lane. She said her little boy is "very close to that dog" and happy to see her again.

Investigators said the dog probably kept coyotes away from the body."

My daughter used to have a German Shepherd. He was a very loyal dog. When my daughter was younger, this dog used to drag her by the sleeve back up towards our house if he felt that she was playing in the yard too close to the road...lol. He did crazy shit too. He would kill mice and go deposit them on the neighbors porch. He also liked to "steal" the neighbors grill cutlery and strew it about our yard. On one of his little excursions, he brought home a pair of pants...with a wallet inside. That was an interesting explanation as we dropped them off at the police station.

Yeah, my inside Girl Dog is a mouser de Luxe and if she catches one, will bring it to me for approval.

I then have to get my gloves, pick it up, make eating noises and say, "Good Girl! Good Girl!", while She sits wagging her tail and smiling!

I then flush the little bugger of a mouse down the pooper!

She has brought me moles, bunnies, rats, squirrels, a 'possum and a few other things which were unidentifiable.

Since the deer bed down in the field, I'm certain that she is thinkiig of venison for like a year.

    Wow..

Trained properly, dogs are really great animals! Growing up, I had a bad experience with a HUGE neighborhood dog that made me scared of them and just not generally like them. However, in the last 4 or 5 years I've really come around and started to see what good pets they really are. My only issue is with people that don't train theirs and let them just run all over them - I hate that crap!

I had a German Shepard but it died a few years ago. She was very very loyal to all the family but also very vicious to anyone she thought was a threat (even if they werent lol).

Hopefully going to get another German Shepard soon.

Most big dogs make good friends, but those little yipp yipp dogs.... I hate them. I don't think that the same thing would have happened had the guy owned a chihuaha

Just saw a fascinating show with a dog that can determine when this little kid is going to have a seizure by the smell and is trained to wake up and notify the parents when its happening. Dogs that can smell cancer cells, its amazing. Its also really depressing what a bum deal they get in society. My mother runs a rescue league that places stray dogs from Puerto Rico in homes in the states. Down there the military poisons them and they are used almost solely for fighting. Because of her efforts I have had many many dogs pass through my home growing up on their way to adoptive families. Each one has been amazing in its own way and very obviously aware that they had been given a great opportunity.

The state I live in seems to lead the way in puppy mills, its pretty disturbing.

I currently own an adolescent Rottweiler, a Doberman and a Chocolate Lab. Two of these three breeds have pretty bad reps. However, I personally believe that no dog is innately contentious. I feel that any dog, if socialized properly and treated humanely, can make a wonderful companion who will be faithful until the end. This is our second Rottie and I can tell you from experience that they are just big babies.

Our late German Shepherd, for example, used to lay on the floor and let the cat groom him as well as allow my daughter to put his fur in "ponytails". Our late Rottweiler used to let our kitten sleep on top of his head.

I have really enjoyed reading all the wonderful posts about everyones pets!

That's true. A guy died in my neighborhood a few months ago and wasn't discovered until 3 days after. The dogs snacked on him the whole time.

Feeding time at my place and after he'd finished the "puppy"; all 130 lbs of him, walked over to me and stood up, putting his front paws on my shoulders, looked me in the eyes for a moment........................

...and then gave me a whole bunch of face licks.
