    Done it twice. lol.

Not painful, imo. They will apply some anaesthesia on the area to be "operated".
You will feel a drilling feeling and sometimes a suddenl sharp (but tolerable) pain.
Don't worry, it will be gone before you know it. It's pretty fast.. about 30-mins of surgery. Can be faster. My first took about 30 mins while the 2nd took less than 15 mins.

I've done it twice too, its not painful, just ask for enough injections.
You going to have to go back a few times for treatment, its not a one time shit, at least if my english is right and we are talking about the same thing :)

Not so painful. My mom had it done in February 2011.They had it done within 40 minutes or so.They checked BP before doing the treatment so that complications doesn't arise due to high BP. Once that went well it was just a routine thing.

I hope you don't have any BP.

Dude, you are going to die! The pain is just unbearable and the worst part are the headaches and diarrhea that will hit you the next day, so get those diapers ready...Just kidding man, I had 2 done last month, just make sure you go to a reputable endodontist who knows what she/he does. I had one done years ago by some asshole, who screwed everything up and ended up drilling outside the tooth. Now I have to have that one extracted because the damage is irreversible. Also, make sure you get a prescription for pain killers and use them even before you start to feel anything.

    Good luck buddy!

Also, most people think that a Root Canal is a one time thing...not true. You will have to make 2 appointments. The first one, your dentist will drill though the infected tooth, clean all that crap and put some medication there. He will them seal the tooth with temporary filling and send you home with some pain killers...nothing that powerful, just a high dose of advil, so don't get too excited! A week later, need to come back for session 2. Guess what? Drilling and clearing again. Hopefully, this time the tooth is looking good. If that's the case, he will seal it and you're all done.

You should go there sometimes just to check it out...It's fun! You hear people moan and scream and sometimes you can see blood splashed on the white walls. :D

I guess you'll have a local anaesthesia ON, so it shouldn't hurt you..

    Hey there,

I am a dentist. No, you don't have to be afraid. You can ignore the ghastly responses above.
On your first appointment, you will get anesthesized by an injection in the mouth which is more or less as painless as a normal IM injection.
He will then drill a hole in your tooth and locate your root canals with thin files and remove the pulp from there. All this will take b/w 30 mins to 1 hr max... He will precribe painkillers and antibiotics to control pain and inflammation if present.

You will have to come back a couple of times for rest of the steps of treatment..

I have done 2 by 2 different dentists. This is all done in one visit if you are in the USA.

The only follow-up will be much later to see if you want a implant or bridge to replace that tooth.

Uncomfortable but no pain. This will depend on the dentist. Check if your insurance covers most of the cost.

I was always told to take 5 advil before the procedure. This will lessen the pain after that anesthesia wears off.

I had four done at once and kept complaining of the pain until he had injected me at least 6 times. After 10 mins I couldn't feel my head and I swear that my eyes were out of control but I never felt a thing. Worst thing was trying to talk for the next 4 hours :D

Oh and also, the disinfectant liquid tastes like crap so try not to swallow any ... it invariably ends up going down your throat.

I have talked to a dentist, he said 50$ is a cost of surgery and 45$ for a cap. I think its cheaper in India. This rate is of best dentist in my city
