hey guys, i came across this domain when i was scraping godaddy auctions (i am not affiliated), anyway, it's seo-free.org pr9. i'm thinking it's b.s. pagerank. but it passed all my tests. i dont want the domain, but i want to know why i can't figure out how it's faked. maybe it's real, and if so -have at it; but if it's fake can someone tell me how they figured it out. thanx!

Just type info:domain.com and if that returns another domain its fake. If it returns the actual domain its real.

You can also check at domaintools.com. Enter the domain then click on the tabs for info about it. If its DROPPED dont bother.

Well there is a working installation of Wp on that site so i doubt its available for auction unless someone just grabbed it. Besides, i think the PR is messed up on it. Have you check ahrefs and majestic to investigate?

No its not legit. PR is directly a result of backlinks... and that domain has only 280 crappy backlinks.

What these people do is use 301 redirects and as soon as the domain picks up the PR, they remove the redirect and immediately sell it before the next PR update (which is when it loses the PR).

thanks, so even if the domain is not dropped, and fake pr is not detected, it can still be b.s. - in this case running seo spyglass would have caught it i guess?

Of course it's fake. I knew that when I saw your title; no further research needed.

But if you want to research, you use a tool to find current backlinks. Check the PR of the top backlinks and you'll have your answer.

PR doesn't fall out of the sky or get assigned according to content or visitors. It comes from backlinks. If you see a PR 9 site that doesn't have a shit load of high PR rank active links from pages with little OBLs (so it doesn't divide the link juice) then you know it's fake. You can't have a PR9 website without many good backlinks.

The site in question has top backlinks that are PR1. I doubt it's a PR1 without monkey business.
