A lot of us use adblock, any one with half a brain would. So I found some decent KW's but there are a few ads on the top. One of them has like 5 ads on the top. There is no way for an SEO to compete with that.

Do you still get good traffic, or is it a waste of time? Finally, do you have a cut off point as in # of ads?

If I'm able to rank top 3, including ads I'll be top 8 for that particular keyword.

What has been your experience in ranking keywords with a lot of ads on the page?

    How are you monetizing?

At the end of the day, it's not about how many competitors you have, it's about whether or not you can make a profit by ranking #3 like you said.

It's an amazon affiliate site. I haven't set it up yet. I have a killer domain, I'm just researching keywords at the moment. So the pages that come up on the ads are e-commerce sites with adwords budgets.

Last time I checked, Google only displayed a maximum of 3 paid ads on top of the organic results, so not sure what you mean when you say 5 ads?

Any half decent keywords will have an ad or two above them and usually it's a good sign, because if advertisers are paying for that keyword, then chances are it makes them money.

However, for SEO purposes, you should be looking at your organic results competition only...

Weird, I sometimes see 5 ads too. I might be hallucinating though.

Competitive keywords have ads on top. You should still rank them. Sometimes the ads are sproadic, sometimes you see them, sometimes you don't. When they are up, the traffic of course is going to drop
