Maybe because you are from another country? I think they are doing this for the people doing a lot of accounts that are not even from the US

That must be the reason, I haven't had any issues with creating gmail accounts.

I doubt it. That's pretty scary though...

Dig up more info on that, blackmag.

After reading this thread, I made a gmail account with an ip that isn't constantly making gmails. I used random details and crap, and all it did was make me enter the captcha twice like always when entering crap details. Seems normal to me.

Where's your ip at? How many gmails has that ip made?

im on US Proxy cuz google doenst offer gmail.com mails in my country :(

This is what i found out on gmail.com helpcenter:
I don't have a mobile phone, can I sign up?If you'd like to sign up for a Gmail address, you need to have a mobile phone that has text-messaging capabilities.
If you don't have a phone, you may want to ask a friend if you can use his or her number to receive a code. Also, if you know someone who already has a Gmail address, you can ask them to email an invitation to you.

One of the reasons we're offering this new way to sign up for Gmail is to help protect our users and combat abuse. Spam and abuse protection are two things we take very seriously, and our users have been very happy with the small amount of spam they've received in Gmail. We take many measures to ensure that spammers have a difficult time sending their spam messages, getting these messages delivered, or even obtaining a Gmail address (spammers will often use many different addresses to send spam). Sending invitation codes to mobile phones is one way to address this, as the number of addresses created per phone number can be limited.

see that: One of the reasons we're offering this new way to sign up for Gmail is to help protect our users and combat abuse. Spam and abuse protection are two things we take very seriously

    ...omg?

Maybe your proxy has been used for mass gmailing purposes-or they just do this if they think you're on a proxy. My clean US ip is working just fine, like I said.

Either way, it is something to consider. Especially since I am probably going to get hamblaster soon.

Edit: Just made another one on the same ip, not clearing cookies, and using crappy info. No phone verification for me again, but I'd really like to know what's causing it for you.

Just made an account and was not asked for phone number.

    But..

You have to enter captcha 3 times before account is created.

They have the captcha color coded.

When you see the red one you are at the last one.

The last one I just made had 3 captchas, and all were red. I probably actually did mess up on the first captcha. They usually just have two captchas even if you get it right like the first one I made a few minutes ago did; it has been like that forever. No biggie. I can only remember one time where I didn't have to enter the captcha twice.

Just created a dozen accounts, no issues besides a captcha having to be entered a few times.
