G+ was never picked up by the mainstream. I never saw g+ pushed by the media, like on the tv news channel. I saw it briefly pushed a few months back. Normal people just don't know what g+ is. If they called it google social, problem solved. Everyone is pushing for mobile advertising, and g+ is completely useless for that. For local business stuff, different story.
There were several flaws with G+.
First of all, the creepy real name policy. As if privacy wasn't already enough of an issue for Google.
Secondly, the invite-only phase that lasted too long.
Third, them force-feeding it via Youtube. That was really unpopular.
Fourth, webmasters didn't embrace it. It's like they're mad with the big brands SERPs or something....
Believe it or not, webmasters are responsible for Google's success. The day all webmasters block Googlebot, is the day Google goes under.
