I haven't figured how this happened yet but some how my email and paypal account both got hacked. I ran every anti-spyware, anti-malware, and anti-virus I could find but I could not find anything, I am clueless how they did it. I also haven't found out what he did with my email but he wiped my paypal clean. I was really pissed at first thinking I just lost 1.4k and I cant respond to any of my clients emailing me.

Within two hours my email account was shut down, my paypal was limited and the money transfer was on hold. Then within another five hours I had my email account back (with a new password), my paypal is unlimited and the money is still on hold but I should get it in 2 weeks.

I have always been scared that paypal would limit my account but I never thought I would be happy that my account got limited.

I can understand why paypal shut down my account because it looks suspicious that a different ip logs into my account and transfers all my money out. But I still cant understand how gmail knew my account was hacked. Any ideas? Maybe they were using my email for spam or something. Should I be scared they did something?

weird shit.... maybe a keylogger? Try to use Roboform for password management, set it to generate passwords with 12+ characters using both upper and lower case letters and numbers, then set RB's master password to something you can remember that involves both letters and numbers (including upper and lower case)

If you aren't using a pass manager then double check the places where you could have stored your passwords (hopefully u don't have a txt with all your passwords in it) ....

I dunno how many times google allows people to re-enter passwords if they are wrong .....but I don't think someone can brute-force crack a gmail acc....

I do use roboform for all my passwords I also try to use different passwords for all my important stuff. But I just remember that I did use the same password for my paypal and gmail account. That probably was not the smartest move and I am assuming that's why they both got hacked.

I still don't know how they got the password in the first place? That password was for my email and paypal account only.
