Giving power from an old domain to a new one ???

    Hi got a question

    if i have a big messageboard with PR4 and thousands of posts and good indexing
    by google but i dont like the domain as its now not matching the topic of the boad anymore is it possible to buy a new domain and forward the power of the old domain to the new one ?

    Why do that though? Its a PR4 message board with thousands of posts. I'd try and revitalize/rebrand it if possible or worst case sell it.

    Not sure that 301 redirects the best option at this point.

    I want a new domain cause at the beginning it was a message board about a special cell phone.Now its for all cell phones and the one in the domainname is so old that it even doesnt exist anymore

    I would say that keep it to the old 1...just put up a formal notice that you are now shifted to "NEW DOMAIN" on your message board.Just mask the domain...don't play with its reputation (in the eyes of Search Engine ;) )

    but if the new domain will point to the old domain want it get punished for double content or redirect the new domain 301 to the old one ?

    I don't think so...actually I've done the same last year...but I just changed the TLD..not the name.

    copy the old site to new domain and put 301 redirect for all pages. You will get PR 4 soon for the new domain and all the link juice will be passed.
    Dont mask. I have tested it. You will get penalty for duplicate contents. If you link the old one to new site, the ranking of one site will drop. so basically you have only one domain. so its better to put 301.

    yea do a 301 redirect AND change of address in webmaster tools


    do not duplicate your site on two domains this will definitely get you a dupe content slap
