A little share for you all that I just discovered. I was getting my haircut last week and like most hairdressers she's a real chatterbox. We ended up on the subject of local downturn in retail and how traditional advertising is failing. My IM instincts kicked in right away and, as I like the owner "she's a cool chick" I said I'd build her a website from scratch for nothing if you tell your clients and friends, also can I leave some business cards . Of course I'm going to sign her up through hostgator aff links and such and I'm just setting up a basic retail wordpress site for her. I'm half way through the site now " I've only spent around 1 hour " and already she has told all of her clients and facebook friends what's going on and how good of a job I'm doing and so far I have 5 small business owners signed up and ready for content and around 8 curious, 2 are large resturant owners not happy paying $50 a month hosting

I'm not going to do these for free of course, but pretty cheap I'm charging $95 for a bare bones basic setup and hoping to get the 21 signups a month at hostgator to get the $125 per signup. I've been careful to tell her not to say she got her's for free, but I'm building it as an example site for client portfolios.

Maybe I should go to a different hairdresser every month and offer the same deal, cheap leads I say. I'm so surprized how effective it is, however I'm already seeing the problems in dealing with people and the interest is a bit unexpected !

I also need a legit business name , where do you guys find the inspiration for this ?? I need this for business cards , I havn't even left cards yet it's all word of mouth.

Anyway give it a go if you have a chatty hairdresser and don't mind a bit of work.
Cheers

I'll post the finished site up in a day or 2 when she gets around to sending me all the content (another PITA with this method)

Name creation:

Choose an animal, a mythical figure, etc

Add webmanagement to the end of it.

ie

raptorwebmanagement.com
gatorwebmanagement.com

they usually sound cool, find a nice name....and then pay someone on fiverr to make a logo or do it yourself by accenting and altering a cartoonish pic of the animal.

good luck

:) sounds good. This is what I did a couple of years ago, it's AWESOME cash and people are ALWAYS impressed. quick easy money.
