I have a large tumblr account with around 15k followers. I've set up a outside site to try to monetize my account without risking tumblr banning it. I use a bit.ly account to track them. Around 400-500 clicks came from the tumblr dashboard, or from a tumblr blog. Another 37 thousand have come from "direct sources" according to bit.ly, and only around 1000 views are being counted on my site by google analytics, so I am fairly sure that I'm not getting 37k clicks on my link in on day (lol, that would be amazing if it was real). This is an issue because my host is detecting the traffic (so something is happening) and warning me that they may close my hosting account.

Does anyone know if this is a common problem with tumblr, or is someone targeting me?

They are Tumblr robots, bitly will show inaccurate stats because of it. I have bitly links that has over 1 million clicks, but only 40k are real. Analytics will show the true stats.

Alright thanks. That still leaves the issue of my host having problems with the massive amounts of traffic (bots) that come into the site. I'd be fine with massive amounts of traffic if they weren't bots that earned no money. Is there a way I can prevent them from accessing my site?

These are bots, don't count them as real viewers

Thanks. That's not the real issue though. They still use up bandwidth that results in my hosting services being cancelled.

Agreed. I'm just wondering I have to do to set up the filter.
