if you're a no name noob, how do you get affiliates to sell your product?

Do you go spam the IM forums and offer it to them at a discount or something and then tell them to sell it for you?

Do you spam IM forums and say "check out my sales page, be an affiliate and make (commission)"?

Do you find bigwigs and send them a personalized email telling them about your offer and that they should promote it?

You could start by finding affiliate directories and putting a post up on there.

What is your product/service, how much commission are you paying? What types of traffic do you accept?

Well I'm going to be doing two.

The first is an ebook. Commission will be 50% which will be around $22. Types of traffic? Do I have to make rules for that? I don't care as long as people get to my page. Seems like the only choices a no name noob has for this is Clickbank or PDC, both of which seem to have serious problems.

The second is going to be a physical book. Commission will be around $100-150 per book sold. No preference on traffic. This will be happening 3-4 months from now. I'd like to find some big name people who want to make $150 per sale with large mailing lists. Again I have no idea what affiliate program to join for this but I know that I can't afford to join most of them (CJ requires $50,000 in monthly sales, maxbounty has a $1,000 startup fee, etc.)

You could do a joint venture with someone experienced in this kind of thing and give them a cut?

Look what this guy is doing in this thread: http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackh...ng-launch-affiliates-make-some-easy-cash.html

That's how you do it. Set up a page describing the launch. Have an opt-in form to keep yourself in people's mind with email updates. Write some content for them to use in mailings. Say how many people you've already got promoting it. Go to this forum, Warrior Forum, Wicked Fire, ABestWeb, etc. and get everyone over to your page. You can set up your own affiliate prog. with e-junkie, but the advantage of ClickBank is that you have a huge affiliate base and if you get on a few good lists, the conversions will shoot you up through the stats and your sales will snowball.

Clickbank would not be terrible for your $22 ebook, it is better than nothing at the very least.

Both Click2Sell and paydotcom have a rule that states that before your product appears on their marketplace you have to sell at least 1 copy of your product. Basically you still have to promote your products to get that 1 sale before any affiliates get to know of it. One way is to get someone your know to purchase the product through your Click2Sell or paydotcom links then you're set to go.
