It's been an established fact that there are many things you can't do with a BST:
1.) You can't make unverifiable claims in your BST
2.) You can't rip off other members' BST threads
I imagine these rules are enforced to let the quality of the BST be at the forefront, and not allow members to utilize shady marketing tactics or claiming unfair benefits to sell their product.
However, despite these rules, it seems like an obvious blind spot to allow BSTs to capitalize off trademarks and IPs that the thread owner clearly doesn't own.
"DJ Pauly D"
"Lady Gaga Google Rider"
"Captain Jack Sparrow"
"Usain Bolts"
"Detective Scooby Doo"
"X-MEN"
"Captain Julian Draxler"
and so much more...
There are probably public IPs in the public domain at this point that I think are fine to use:
"King Kong"
"Godzilla"
"The Gladiator"
But using actual celebrity names, brands, and IPs to sell products is actually really disingenuous and shady. I know people will want to keep the shadiness because "it's blackhat", but it truly makes us all look bad. You can still sell shitty links without involving a trademark you don't own.
Imagine you work hard your entire life to become a celebrity only for a BHW seller to sell shitty backlinks using your name. It's super lame that this is allowed. It's also creepy.
It seems odd to me that BHW has been amping up the launch of "The New Marketplace" for years now, and yet we still allow members to freely (and blatantly) abuse copyrights in order to get a competitive advantage. If BHW wants to make a step forward into becoming a genuine online marketplace, then we need to bar sellers from using copyrights they don't own in order to sell their product.
I understand this can be a slippery slope, but I think an easy step forward is to block sellers from using those copyrights in the thread title at the very least.
