I've had good results from the few well ranked howto sites. (just google for howto, howto wiki).
There are two ways:
Create a high quality howto yourself, invest some time and create a good howto including your link.
Think a bit when placing the link, this is an Howto and no advertisement (at least users need to think so).
I usually really help the people to reach their goals, even list respectable competitors (without link).
The more successful way is to modify a howto that's already well ranked in google.
Here it is important to put high quality content in that really makes the article better.
You risk getting your website blacklisted on the website if you spam the article.
I receive 25-50 targeted visitors daily from a good howto, that's not much but smaller websites might be happy for that amount of quality traffic.
