some sites look for memberships, some look for you to sell a product, some just want you to enter basic information like an email or zip code.

Making sales, getting signups, etc. depending on which affiliate program. Many affiliate programs allow you to choose from one of several things, but the goal of all of the companies is making sales for themselves so anything you get paid for will be for helping them toward getting sales.
Amazon and Clickbank most definitely have affiliate programs. Those specific ones only pay commissions for sales, no CPA (Cost Per Action). Friend Finder has an affiliate program as well, and they have the option to either be paid per sale or per action.

To get paid you need to get emails and junk. And stuff. I recommend reading around here for a bit before you try anything. Good luck!
