I used bings geotargeting feature changing my target from unspecified to the USA and noticed a drop in rankings for us based search results. Anyone else notice something similar?

It was bing and yahoo. I look at my historical ranking data. I geolocated on the 29th of November. All of my rankings dropped by around 5 places on average (all page 1) attributed this to link building. Today I'm testing by deleting the geo locating target. Its a .net

Let us know how it works out and if your ranking comes back. I don't see how changing the geo target from unspecified to USA could have a negative effect, but you never know.

Thats what I was thinking... Especially if its a TLD with a us ip... but i remember reading a blog posting 6-9 months ago about a company that changed the setting and noticed less than favorable movement so they changed it back... They gained ranking for 2 kw and lost ranking for 7 or something like that... Cant remember the specifics... I'll keep you guys posted... Almost 24h at this point and no appreciable change. Not currently building links, havent been for 3 weeks. Will not start a new linkbuilding campaign to keep the variable out.

Not sure if Yahoo and Bing does that or not. Seems like we have to pay attention to every single parameter related to our site.

Let us know after few days if your ranking comes back to normal or not.
