    Hi,

I need some help her... About a geographic target problem.

My site's domain is currently associated with the target: United Kingdom (according to "Google Webmaster Tools".)

This is probably because I have purchased a co.uk address :p

In my "Google Webmaster Tools" I want to change the target to world wide. But google will not let me do this. I think?

    This is what they state:

"You can only use this feature for sites with a neutral top-level domain, such as .com or .org. Country-specific domains, such as .ie or .fr, are already associated with a country or region."

Does this mean that my site will not show up if someone from USA search for my keyword?

Do I have to get my self a .com domain and put up my site there in stead?

    What to do?

    Please help.

    Take care.

No, it depend on google search configuration, you can configure, website from which country you want to see or which language.

com is always the best domain. It give you more seo boost. If you can afford com, use it.

If I were you I would just get a .com, especially if you haven't done too much link building to that domain. You can always do a redirect to the new domain.

Yeah and make sure you host it on a US based server too, that makes a difference.

Ok, thanks. But where and how do I do this? :hmmmm2:

All my servers are in the US so I should be good... Thanks for the tip.

I have a lot of domains, but only this one is co.uk (it was the only one with my keyword available ... with dashes...)
I've never owned a co.uk domain before so I was a bit surprised when I found out about the target-problems associated with that domain ...

I still have to figure out how to get the domain picked up by US searchers then... :frusty:
or just purchase a new .com domain and put the crap up there ...

    ...

    Think I found something here:

    Code:

Sounds like .com domains can rate good in google.co.uk
but co.uk domains can NOT rate good in google.com

    hmm...

My servers are in the US.
My nameservers are attached to my US ips.
My domains are purchased at namecheap.com (US, right?)
And my domains are attached to my US hosting accounts.

Everything is "US" except for that freakin' co.uk domain!

If I get a lot of linkjuice maybe I can push the co.uk up in the google.com SERPs?

err... probably just better to buy a new .com ... Why fight it?

Why does it matter if the servers are not hosted in country of business ? I have read a lot of conflicting stuff about this. I am in the uk and my google searches show that the us accounts for 75% of searches. My host is hostgator who i am reluctant to leave as i cannot praise them enough. Does anyone have a good uk host ?
