Birth is the purest process of nature, Mending it will only result in disaster.

This thread will result in nothing but arguments involving political and religious beliefs. Interesting topic, but I don't believe this thread will last.

Its a topic about science, and potentially the ethics of science. Certainly anyone can make any topic about politics or religion if they want but that falls on them and what they post. Id say this post is certainly less political than posts about economic collapse I see posted today or other posts floating around.....

Yeah, I hear ya. I'm not trying to be a dick or anything. I majored in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology in College. So it's right up my alley. But I've made comments in the past that were not political in any way shape or form and my replies were removed simply for using a politicians name. And I realize it's in the lounge, but sometimes even the some of the mods don't read the content. They just see a word or two and assume. I hope it sticks around tbh. Because as I said, it's an interesting topic.

I'd be skeptical about the timing of this, Skye. I'm certain I've heard reports of the same thing over a year ago, so it may just be rehashed virality.

That being said, genetic modification is a volatile subject. If many people are already racist and sexist, there's no reason to think that a genetically superior population wouldn't become geneticist. Thus comes the discrimination based on genes.

I'd support genetic modification only if the genes of a newborn become illegal to disclose to anybody except the person who will have legal custody of the baby. If the baby is getting adopted, not even the birth parents should have the genetic information.

This would lead to the smallest amount of babies getting murdered because of their genes.

Humans might need to be modified to survive in the next 50-500 years Idk. Maybe well need to resist the cold better. Or need to eat less to survive. Be stronger. Stuff that could help us

We could always create the X-Men.... What super power (genetic modification) would you choose.....lol

Someone should make a movie to explore this idea of a genetically inferior man who is forced to assume the identity of a superior one in order to pursue his dream of space travel due to the discrimination applied to "natural birth" humans. They should call it something like Gattaca. :D

I saw all the major news networks publishing articles on it yesterday.... of course if you're right, it wouldnt be the first time MSM lied to us.

It's a bit crazy and stuff is bound to go wrong at first, but I think these sort of things are important. It's all part of us understanding the body, genetic makeup, disease etc.

It's not a lie. And this was not made for the sake of discovering something interesting.

There are couples who can't have a normal baby due to some DNA problems. This method cures it and allows thise people to have healthy kids.

How would you feel knowing you have 100% chances that your child would have down syndrome?

Trust me, I'm a med student :D

Stories like this remind me I'm living in the future.

The whole thing is sort of unsettling to me, but at a certain point I feel the cat will be out of the bag and this will take off. I mean in the story the people getting the treatment were a Muslim couple that wanted to protect embryos, not some libertine futurists.

Interesting times.

This is pretty awesome, and the only people who can be against it are the ones that didn't even bother reading the article.

This is the future of medical advancements. Why would you be against this?

Potential For Abuse
Discrimination
Weaponization

There are a lot of things someone can say of why not. I think for me, human's have displayed that we have not advanced enough as a species to be responsible for such a great technology. With that said, I know this is inevitable.
