Can anyone advise on how I would obtain a one box in google local places when there wasn't anything other than organic search when the same query was run before. I remember seeing that this was possible. The only way I can conceive of this happening is if for example the query is

    miami dog grooming

and the name of your business as listed in google places is exactly that

    "miami dog grooming"

    can anyone advise futher?

If there is no Google Places listing (i.e. no other businesses listed) for a specific search term, then it's very likely that if you create a GP listing, you will have a one-box.

The name of the business does not have to be exactly the same as the keyword. To make it seem less spammy, you could use a variation, e.g.: miami dog grooming store

You will need a phone number (preferably a local number) and an address (could rent a mailbox, but not a PO box) to create/verify the listing.
