I noticed that the traffic of one of the largest reddit NSFW went from 4-5k online viewers to 400-600 since the google core update a few days ago. Coincidence or is this a general trend?

They're certainly giving less visibility to nsfw content & google and reddit are partners. Also nsfw on reddit is basically just onlyfans advertisements, they might as well just make all nsfw subreddits redirect to onlyfans.

This have been happening since the start of 2024. Partly due to new anti bot measures which have been released 6 months ago ( SFW subreddits were testing it first, now NSFW subreddits have gotten the update.).

Another point would be the upcoming IPO. More accounts are getting banned or otherwise shadowbanned.

New ban evasion filter that is implemented automatically regardless of what the mods want ( it the same as the first point above)

This is happening with sfw subreddits aswell.

Definitely their IPO. Most of companies rarely want to truly invest in platform that contains a lot of NSFW content.
So they are slowly killing of their subreddits in order to avoid what happened to tumblr few years ago.
By slowly lowering traffic people will not feel the change as much, but also less and less nsfw subreddits are gonna pop up because of low traffic.
It is a win win for reddit.

So reddit as traffic source is dead now?

And there is no alternative
