I didn't see any other journey threads for poker/casino/gambling sites, so this may be the first one. If anyone knows of any other journeys for gambling sites, please link them, I'd appreciate it.

    My goal
    • Earn $50 a day on average from my poker/casino affiliate sites by October 31st.
How am I going to do this?
    • Target long-tail keywords to bring traffic to my site that's looking to gamble or buy gambling-related products.
Where am I at right now?
    • I have a poker-related site that's a few months old. The site only has 5-10 articles posted, and it gets about 200-300 visits a month.
    • I have a casino-related site that's a few weeks old with only a few articles posted. This site has gotten around 100 visitors so far.
    The plan
    • Start building content for both sites. The goal is to write 1-2 articles a day targeting long-tail keywords.
    • Build a plan for using social media to bring traffic to my sites.
    • Learn as I go along. I consider myself a beginner when it comes to SEO. The last website I made was years ago, and it was just a hobby that I abandoned after a few weeks/months.
    • Make money??? Hopefully, lol.

Time to get to work. Good luck to everyone else who's working on their journeys. Let's make some money! :)

    • Thanks Thanks x 1

    Thanks!

So far I've written one article and spent about 1.5 hours fixing things on the site (re-sizing pictures so everything looks congruent and adjusting on-site SEO). I'm doing some keyword research right now for the other 2-3 articles I'll be writing.

    Day 1:
    • Wrote 2 articles targeting low competition keywords (under 1,000 monthly search volume).
    • Worked on on-page SEO optimization.

My plan right now is to keep writing content until the site has something like 20-40 articles posted, then I'm going to focus on link building to bring traffic to the site. Currently, my site has 6 keywords ranking on the 2nd page, according to Ahrefs. One keyword gets about 800 searches/mo. and the other keywords get about 10-50 searches/mo. As of now my site only has 1 backlink, so I'm expecting to see some good results once I start link building. Many of the keywords that I'm targeting don't look too difficult according to LongTailPro.

Make sure your long tails are playing keywords, and not just random shit. What country are you from?

Are you sure you want to target poker: https://www.google.com/trends/explore#q=online poker

Why not focus on a niche which has a rising trend instead of a declining one? I know there may still be plenty of online poker interest out there and you might make some money but it's wasted effort in my opinion to build a site around something with losing interest. Either way, best of luck to you.

Haven't really seen a journey thread focused on casino niche.

Using Long tail keywords to drive traffic is a good idea actually.. Focus and work hard, you will achieve.

    Good Luck!!

I'm in the US. Thanks for the advice. The last few articles I wrote just had an informational intent, and I chose them simply because they looked easy to rank, and I wanted to draw traffic to my site. I do agree that I should focus most of my efforts on targeting playing keywords to bring in people who are ready to spend/play.

Online poker was going through a huge boom ~10 years ago or so and it's been leveling out ever since. I still think it's a profitable niche to target, though.

I appreciate the comment, thanks. :)

    Day 2:

I wrote one article today targeting a long tail keyword with something like 100 monthly searches, but the competition on the 1st page look weak. None of the pages are optimized for the keyword and a few of the sites have less than 50 backlinks.

The goal for day 3 is to work on the plan for my sites' content. I've been minimal keyword research for the articles I've written lately. I really need to take the time to plan out the next 10-20 articles I'll be writing, so I have a better idea of the direction my sites' are heading in. I also plan to write 2 articles today.

I have one site that's focused on poker, and I have another site that's focused on slots/casinos. I'm going to try to write an article for each site daily, so the sites grow evenly.

Just food for thoughts and it is possible that you already have or were going to write articles on these suggested related topics. I hope that some of these can assist you with your journey.

    • The legitimacy of the shuffle online. I believe that there are tons of ways for you to attack this topic in an informal way while incorporating your objective of long tail keywords.
    • The top two tracking tools for online poker. Comprehensive articles on these could have a good value.
    • The still fairly recent acquisition of the largest Poker room and your thoughts on what this represents.
A lot of content exist on these topics but it seems repetitive and of very low quality.

That's all I have for now :) I am also a newbie at SEO and I am starting my own personal journey in this world, nevertheless, I also have been around the Online Poker scene for over a decade. I wish you the best of luck in your journey and hope that you will achieve success.

On a side note, I just had a manual penalty lifted by Google for a fitness blog I started about a month ago. I bought a domain name that had been used for spam apparently. Google responded to my reconsideration request in just under 2 weeks, which is quicker than I expected. Does anyone have any experience building up a blog after a manual penalty? I was going to dump the site and start over, but now I'm thinking about sticking with it.

Thanks for this post! You just helped me think of a good idea. :) I'm pretty familiar with Holdem Manager, so I can write a comprehensive guide about it and offer a free custom report file and/or HUD setup for my email subscribers, so I can start building up an email list.

Do you still play poker? I used to play a good amount of NLHE back when PS was still in the US. I still play today, but I've slowed down a lot.

Good luck on your online journey, too.

I still play here and there on PS. There might also be some value in presenting articles that demonstrate the paradigm shift of online poker rooms towards casino offerings as well. I noticed that a lot of them which were Poker only -- now also shifted from being Poker + Sportsbook towards full blown live Casinos e.g. PP

If your targeting ROW players (Non-US) join a poker/gambling affiliate network where you can offer rake races to your players, also revenue share is usually higher this way.

That's a good idea. I'm targeting US players, but I know that some of the sites are OK with me offering promotions that I pay for out of my own pocket.

Does anyone have any experience using this method to build backlinks? http://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/get-huge-seo-footprints-collections.491042/
I'm doing it manually and I was able to build backlinks to 2 .edu sites with about a little over an hour of work.

I'm noticing a few weird/spammy backlinks to some of my sites. Why does this happen? I have a backlink from a porn site that popped up a few days ago. I'm leaving it alone for now, but I'm curious why it's there? I went to the link and it looks like the porn site has my site displayed in an iframe or something?

Long Tail Pro Rant and Maybe a Free Keyword Giveaway :)

So, I run Long Tail Pro throughout the day searching completely random keywords, hoping to find random low competition keywords in any niche. I've noticed that I'll have keywords with really low scores like 20 or less, then when I recalculate the score it jumps up to 40+. This happens almost all the time. I've yet to find a legit keyword that stays with a Keyword Competitiveness (KC) score of 20 or less.

Today, I found a product name keyword with 18,000 searches with a score of 17, but it jumped to 47 when I recalculated it. However, when I Googled the keyword, I saw retailers as the top 3-4 results, then 4 YouTube videos in a row with Page UR of 15-20. When I added "review" to the query (only 260 monthly searches), I see a YouTube result at the top, then a bunch of forums with Page UR under 15 and really high DR ratings. There's one blog result with a Page UR of 6 and just 3 backlinks to the specific page. This seems like a really weak keyword, right?

I have 3 websites on my plate right now (poker, casino, and fitness sites), so I don't think I can focus on building a page around this keyword. If there's any reputable members on the forum who want the keyword, I don't mind giving it out if you agree to teach me about how to find good keywords. It's a plus if you use Long Tail Pro, as that's what I use. I don't need you to spend hours tutoring me, just give me some pointers here and there, so I can be sure I'm on the right course for my other 3 sites.

If you've made it this far, lol, I forgot to mention that it looks like most of the sites on the 1st page haven't focused too hard on on-page SEO, either. Also, advertiser competition is "high" for the keyword. I heard that's important, too.

Edit: The keyword is in the 'tools/hardware' niche.

Quick update, I'll post more later tonight. I've just been building back links. I created 5 back links to my poker site, and I'm researching PBNs and other methods to boost my site. I also wrote a small poker strategy article that's part of a larger series I have planned.

Edit: Do ya'll think the keyword "XYZ pokersite payout" has any value? It's my highest ranking keyword and it gets 880 monthly searches. I'm ranked 16 for it, I believe with no backlinks at all.

2nd question: Do you guys think adding "2016" in posts helps rankings? A few of the sites on the first page have the year in their posts. I'm thinking about going back and adding the year to my review posts and any other relevant posts.

Thanks so much for the subscription. That's a big boost of motivation to keep this thread updated. Since you're the first subscriber (at least I think you are, is there a way to check how many I have?) do you want that free keyword I talked about above? I thought about editing/deleting my post and just using it myself because it looks like it's really good, but I do have a lot on my plate. The KW looks like it would be good for an Amazon site.

Random thought: getting backlinks is really easy, but getting them indexed is the real challenge.
