I feel retarded for asking this.

When i log into my GA account and look at my keyword rankings, i see some in 4, 7, 12 Average Position, but when i search for the keywords, my sites are nowhere to be found.

What am i missing here ?

Check that your searching on the correct google. Then use a website that tells you what page you are on in google. There is software available, and websites that allow you to store your sites in them, and have this updated.

You just have to triangulate the results over a few sources. I don't think anything can really tell you which page you are on since its always changing, depending on what your website is, or what your doing to it.

Make sure you are using the correct Google location to analyze your rankings (.de, .com, .com.au, etc)

First things first. When checking your rank, be sure to Turn Off Web History, and Turn Off History Personalization. Google sometimes personalizes your search results based on your past search activity on Google. This search history personalization includes searches you've done and results you've clicked. If you have Search Web History, or History Personalization on, you'll more than likely see different websites ranking in different places then everyone else.

Other Possible Scenarios (as mentioned above.)

    • Scenario #1 - Keyword / Page could be ranking in another country (google.ca, google.cn, google.fr, etc.)
    • Scenario #2 - Keyword / Page could be ranking in Google Images, or Google Videos.

You have to turn off personalization, history and change location to the same settings. Webmaster tools will show different results because it calculates the daily / weekly average, so the actual results are never the same. You should get a proper rank tracker..
