I'm a programming guru - with excellent skills in asp.net, php (lamp), flash/actionscript, javascript, html and more. I'm good at what I do.

I spent a couple of years in corporate America and the companies loved it. I got them more than they asked for. But I soon discovered that I wasn't really being compensated for my efforts. In fact, excellent coders don't reallly get paid well - unless they work for small/start-up companies.

So I left and joined the freelance world. I registered with rent a coder and made a couple of grands in a short period of time. I have great ratings and took one client out of the site - who's giving me a couple of items every now and then. I registered with guru, but I haven't made a lot of money there. As a starter on those sites, I had to lower my rate to get my first clients.

I find it a bit time consuming and not very rewarding to spend a lot of time trying to get projects on the freelance sites. Those freelance sites are mostly geared towards buyers who are looking for cheap labor from emerging economies.

So I'm looking for some ideas about getting good clients that I can retain. Also, what other money making avenues can I pursue with my skills and expertise? I'm always looking for good ideas to implement. I'd say I have some entrepreneurship blood in my veins. I've tried teaming up with some folks to get some projects going. But within no time, I came to realize that the partnerships would not work out. Greedy capitalism is usually the hurdle.

I've made about $100 on AC - with 33 articles. I have great traffic methods to be implemented when I reach 100's of articles (will share with interested AC publishers). I set up an autoblog and got minor traffic - with no promotions. No revenue yet. I did make about $4 with adsense on another site - without any promotions.

I know a lot about (and have used) blackhat methods. I know about affiliate marketing. But I'm not cashing in on all that good stuff I have in my head. I recently started to wonder whether or not things would be different if I had a strong lady by my side -- maybe to give me a push or something!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You clearly describe who i am, few years ago.

Two couple things that i've done, which made a huge improvement in my life are:

    - focus on a method or two and scale them up. doing one big thing and many small ones, require the same effort but the reward is clearly different. focus on one thing and make it big.

    - find a very close friend, or small group with same interest (who does the same method)
share and share, good things bad things. how much you made, how you do it, etc. this not only helps me motivate myself, but also giving a valuable feedback and ... trust from others. perhaps you'd want to limit couple thing to those you trust, but the idea is still the same ... share!

To conclude ... only two words, action and motivation.

As somebody who has experience in affiliate marketing (wh and bh) and the knowledge of programming you seem to have, making money shouldn't be all that hard in your situation.

You know what marketers want/need in terms of software... So make it. Set up simple sales pages and an affiliate program.

Use what you know to drive traffic to your own site where you sell software programs related to IM. If you don't feel confident in your ability to write/market yourself, then JV with someone who's a better copywriter than you are.

They handle the marketing/affiliate stuff. You handle product creation and the technical deployment. Or, do it all yourself.

You could sell software that does just about anything.... Video submission, linkbuilding, seo research, article spinning/submission, Content scraping, twitter bots, facebook bots, auto-blog builders, landing page generators, most of us have at least one of all of these on our hard drives right now.

There is plenty of room in the market for competent programmers who build quality software and provide decent customer service. Hell, you could create software for other niches too, like personal development/brain entrainment. It's all good stuff.

    Hope this helps,

    Hugo

Have you ever visited GAF or oDesk? Offer your service there and you'll earn money :) Or offer your service in WF. Good money there

I do keep a list of potentially good web apps. I don't want to build another plentyoffish, facebook, twitter and the like - or at least not in the same niche. I guess I need to find some folks to discuss the ideas with and see if they have real potential. Thanks.

I do have accounts on oDesk and GAF - but they're basically the same thing as RAC. I have yet to win projects on oDesk/GAF.

    By the way, what's WF?

Good point. I recently read an ebook about building software and teaming up with JV partners to sell them. I'm definitely interested in doing that. In fact, I have a great idea for a software to help Affiliate Marketers. Here's the scenario: when you promote a product and generate leads, the information collected goes to the provider and the affiliate marketer is simply compensated for the lead. Imagine if the affiliate marketer had access to all the lead information collected! They could use those leads to market other products, etc. Well, I have the solution to that problem.

In fact, I already started on the software. Now, I'll need some folks to sell it. If you can join in on that, please let me know. I guess I'll make another post here looking for folks to sell the software.

    Thanks.

    Why don't you just promote?

    EDIT:

I may be interested in marketing and selling your software. PM with more info please...

For the AC articles, I'm waiting to have 100's of them so I can implement the best AC traffic campaign yet. I have it ready - just need to submit more articles.

For the other site, it's really a matter of finding time to do it. Since I'm mostly into getting programming projects (to maintain the current life style) I barely have time to do other stuff.

Trying to be a 1-man show can be rewarding - but it can be overwhelming. I'm in great need of JV partners to do certain things.

... about to PM you c/o the software. Thanks.
