?We were not told that for a long time?.I have a rule of thumb, which is that anything that is publicly stated is probably around 10 to 20% of what?s true. It will take us years to know the extent of the contamination and the extent of the fuel melting. The best case scenario in this situation is that it will take months to begin to stop leaking radiation from the reactors.?

I don't know what part you're saying is "not true"--the meltdown, the time it will take to clean up, or something else. However, several of the reactors have gone into complete or partial meltdown.

TEPCO has consistently and irresponsibly reported conditions as much better than they actually are. The evacuation zone has recently been expanded since a melting fuel rod caused a hole to develop in one of the reactors. Radioactive grass is already being found in some nearby areas which had areas dedicated for farm grazing (radioactive beef anyone?).

TEPCO is trying to do too much damage control for their company when too many people's lives hang in the balance.

Not true was in reference to no decent information being avaliable.

As for long term effects, I guess it sucks to neighbours with Japan...
