After being disgruntled for a few months, I picked up market samurai again. I am frustrated because it seems like I can't find any good keywords.

I think the problem is my current niche: seo. (why did i choose seo, cause im stupid thats why).

My plan is to offer seo services to local companies, which shouldn't be that difficult because they will have very specific local keywords.

Me on the other hand, I am swimming with the sharks trying to promote my business website to advertise my seo business. the markets with keywords related to "marketing" and "seo" seem saturated. and although I think MS is a great tool, I have yet to find any "high search, low competiton" keywords, and i also hate having to click "seo competition" for each kw - what a pain.

Any suggestions?,

It's human nature to think big... "custom SEO analysis for online retailers" is a niche. "custom SEO analysis for law firms" is a niche. "custom SEO analysis for auto dealers" is a niche. You can't be all things to all people and you shouldn't try to be and you especially shouldn't pretend to be. I turn down prospects if I don't understand their business or industry. I always give people the best advice I can and dispel anything that is seemingly "magical" to them. I always tell them when I don't know and what it would take to find out.

You're not stupid. You are just biting off more than you can chew and there are easier ways to make money than shooting for #1 on a keyword. You could focus on providing killer advice in online forums (like, BHW) and get leads from the people who like your methods and inquire about services.

When people ask you why you are not number one in a keyword space just say your mission is to help other people's websites, not my own.

I think you may need to take a step back. for example..

best dallas bar
best dallas burger
dallas maid services
dallas plumbers

90% of the business that rank for those dont even know what a search engine is exactly, educate them, do SEO for a new local bar, get them in the first page, and then use that case study to market to new businesses

Go get you a copy of Keyword Research Pro, use it to create a lot of long tailed search terms and then copy those search terms into Market Samurai for analysis. Rather than looking through lists of say 30-50 search terms, build lists of 1000-5000 search terms and then weed out the bad ones from there. It will leave you with a much longer list of potentially good terms and save you some time along the way.

I like the huge lists myself, but boy do they sure kill Market Samurai in terms of speed.

any alternatives to Keyword Research Pro? I didnt see it in the downloads section.

Thanks,

Market Samurai can be a frustrating tool, I've sat in front of that MS screen for hours at a time digging up niches. Sometimes its luck of the draw because the keywords it comes up with can be really unrelated sometimes. Power through. I had the same problem when I started my SEO business, but now I realized that I needed to forget about marketing my website (I rank #1 for every variation of MYCITY SEO and I get no business for it) , because anyone searching for SEO sort of understands it, the customers I want know nothing about it and my word is golden to them.

Just a thought...

I found it's best to go after one keyword at a time for a client. I once tried to capture 100 keywords for a client at the same time I got to month 3 and he shut everything down... even though we were one payment and one month from getting every keyword he didn't see the progress quick enough.. tackle 2-3 per month for a client .. they will be happy
