So 4 months ago I started a review blog in a relatively low comp (at least numbers wise) niche. 80% of my earnings come from a keyword that i rank number 1 for.

the general keyword (example: if i did a dog website, the general keyword would be "dog reviews") I rank #3 for and have been trying for a while to get to 1 but it isn't happening even though I update weekly (and for the first 3 months I updated practically daily) and have been doin back linking since day 1 for this general term. The 2 sites that are ahead of me haven't updated in forever.

Entire site was seo white hat (except for one little black hattish trick that got me on 5 different high PR sites via a delicious hack). Haven't used scrapebox or XR at all for this site.

my question is in regards to whether I should just keep slowly building backlinks and doing updates like I have been, or whether I should do something more serious like a linkwheel or blogroll (neither of which I have done yet for this site). I don't want to do anything risky since this site is making a lot of money already, but I want to move up for this general term.

    any suggestions appreciated.

ps longtime lurker but just started posting so don't be put off by my low post count.

Your doing good! Just keep doing what your doing! Stay off the black hat section as it looks like your giving up to easy when in reality our doing better then most of these "wanna b's"

Keep your content legit, relevant and updated. If your truly not using techniques everyone and their sister know about and your already ranked then I wouldn't stop. Most ppl cants get pr3 in less then 9 months.

Its only been 4 months maybe your Keyword(s) are seasonal. I own a walmart website that is seasonal in nature I get 90k hits Jan-June per month but from June-Dec I get less then 3k per month. So give it a full year and use your analytics to track how your doing. Also check your competition you say they haven't update in a long time but are ranking. This tells me there content is relevant so use that to your advantage. Take an article of theirs use the same topics and rank. Use subdomains also for other keywords and make sure all of your internal links are linking to each other.

Check trends and I know you used it as an example DOG website but I'd research upcoming dog events and 30 days before hand write a keyword rich article and send it out. It goes for anything !

Good luck and just keep going

if you start slowly, i would suggest to keep it slow, but you'll need more variation of backlinks as well as social exposures (don't depend on one or two link building tricks)

Just read the whole thread. Ouch. I'm not positive it was the +1s but that is scary.

I was just about to buy some facebook likes because I just now made a facebook page for the site but now I'm scared to lol.
