Fresh to Death: a Journey to $100K
by

Introduction
It's easy to fall into a routine, to become satisfied with what you have and become lazy. We're all playing the game of life and most of us are on auto-pilot. I refuse to be set to cruise control! F**k that, I feel like grabbing life by the balls and making it play the game how I want it to be played. A few months ago (6+) I suffered a severe blow to the head, resulting in a TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) and you know what, life has sucked. I gained 30 pounds, I can't remember shit, and I can't play contact sports, the one thing that has been keeping me sane all these years. I am a competitive guy, I like to win that's why right now at the age of 19 I'm going to start my journey to $100K. No one in my family makes this kind of money, I guess I've got to lead by example. I don't care how long it takes I will try to update this thread as much as possible. For each of my jobs/projects I will use a different code name to stay organized. For some reason, I also decided to go all out with the tables if you don't like it then too bad, I'm sticking with it. My skills are all over the place and I will be using quite a few different methods to accomplish my boards not to mention my offline jobs will also contribute to my journeys stats.
Alright let the journey begin....

Codename: Work Horse When I got home from college it was May 13th, I sat around for a few days and visited my neurologist to figure out what was wrong with my head. Believe it or not, I actually didn't know that I had a concussion. Recently my memory has been off and I have been having some crazy aggressiveness when I confronted with authority. So I got back home and I thought to myself, theres no way I can just sit around until my summer job starts on June 23rd, I'd much rather work and make some money. That same day I called up an elderly family friend that I play pool with to let them know I was back in town and ready to kick there ass in a quick game whenever they were up for it. He told me that he was working on his boat getting ready to launch it and that I should go over to his house; this was yesterday. I pulled up to his house and walked up to the boat he was working on, and we talked for a while. Next thing I know he asks me if I would be up to do some yard work for him and general work around the property, obviously I accepted then and there and started immediately. For the next five hours I raked his lawn, my hands blisters up and I was gassed. I was astonished when I noticed that I had only finished about half the lawn, I promised a friend I would workout with him so I was done for the day. Today I returned, at first a was sore but once I got in my groove I was a raking machine. Rake all the leaves into a pile, fill up a huge trash barrel full of leaves, haul it off into the woods, dump it an repeat. All in all I must have dumped 30+ barrel-fulls of leaves. After I raked his lawn I decided to clean up his huge ass driveway; his place is in the middle on the woods, so you can imagine how many leaves can accumulate. Today I spend another five hours working before it started to rain. I got about 70% complete with the driveway. I was happy because today he asked me how much I wanted to get paid, I am enjoying the work and he is an old family friend so I said $18/hour and he said "nonsense, nothing less than $20" so I agreed on $20. right then and there he pulled out a brand new $100 bill and paid me for yesterdays work. He is a pretty good guy, yesterday he grilled up venison burgers for us and today he gave me a bucketful of littleneck clams. Tomorrow, if it doesn't rain I will go back an try to finish some of the stuff on my to-do list:
The money made from this side job will go towards future IM start-ups and also towards the completion of my short term goals. |
