Hi there! I was roaming around BHW for many years as a guest and only recently I joined the forum and started interacting with it’s members. I have seen many success stories in here and I thought it’d be a good idea to share my own story. I’m not a millionaire or anything but I make good amount of money to maintain a good lifestyle, having so much time to spend with family and friends. I hope my story will motivate others and that’s the main idea behind me sharing it.

My IM career began 6 years ago. I was in the university at that time and I wanted money to extend my studies. I was so much into computers, internet and tech related stuff since when I was a kid and that made me to turn on my computer and look if I can find a job online instead of working at the local McDonalds. The beginning was full of frustration but if I had one thing, it’s my patience. I signed up with freelancer and odesk trying to bid on small graphic works but there were more people who did a better job than me for a less price.

I had lack of skills, no money in my pockets and I was scared that I might not be able to complete my programming degree at that time. Dealing with these frustrations, I decided to give it another shot with Fiverr. It was still new at that time and there was not much competition as it have today. I made two graphic related gigs and yet there was no results. On the edge of giving up, I found the ultimate solution. Creativity. I’m not going to tell you much details into the gig I made but it was creative and attracted loads of eyes and ears. It went viral and I started getting orders from around the world. Delivering was a hard job because I had to work on the orders all day. I was making about $25-50 per day and that made me happy because I started from zero. Two weeks later, I got frustrated with orders. haha believe me I was. Even tho I was making money, I still had to work my ass off. So in the end of the day, I wasn’t happy.

I made friends with many people who ordered from me. I’m a friendly personality and some asked if I can take care of their other works too. Like graphic designing, web designing etc. I knew a little bit of photoshop and I replied them “sure” even tho I had no confidence of what I can do. Three of these people were actually much professional and wanted my help with more advanced work. One in particular wanted to me to quit Fiverr and work for him in a salary basis. I was frustrated working all day along on Fiverr so I agreed in a heartbeat without actually knowing how much I’d get and what should I actually do. Only thing I was concerned about the time I had to work and I cleared the air with him immediately.

I started working for him and he paid me $350 per week. Plus, I got bonus gigs from the other two guys as well. I picked up everything I as I go. I paid for courses and learnt with the money I made. I invested in myself. Two months of working, I realized that this is what I actually wanted to do. I found out my passion and I quit university which is the first reason I started working online. Life is strange.

The guy I was working for actually a middle man. He worked with high end client and outsourced me to complete their work. Even tho I was making a good amount of money with less effort then, I was hungry for more. More freedom more money. At first I learned so much from him about Social Media, Facebook ads, Adwords, Squeeze pages, email lists, sales funnels, Wordpress, SEO etc but in the end, I was giving him advise on how to handle projects and what to do. All because I loved what I practiced and I did my research everyday.

One day I talked to him, at this point we were more like friends and I asked him to not pay me a salary but instead, I should have 50% of what he makes. He wasn’t sure about it first but agreed because I had all the skills he needed and he didn’t have to start over. When we started working like that, I was surprised how much he made from me. My monthly earnings sky rocketed. Even tho I worked on one project per month, I was making more than enough. We had misunderstandings and failures among the line but we managed to work for more than 4 years together. My life completely changed because I never gave up.

In the last year, me and my partner ended our working relationship mutually. One of the hardest decision I have ever made but it was worth it. I value freedom more than anything and I wanted to get rid of even the little amount of work I would do. I planned for 3 months and in March 2018, I opened up a digital marketing agency. Brought a work space and hired some friends from the college. First two three months were loads of work for me but they have learnt from me and now can manage their work on their own.

I have all the freedom I want now. I have now become a middleman like the guy who hired me in the first place. But I have advanced his business module. More helping hands for me and more projects I get to complete. My routine is to supervise the work that have been completed by my team and meeting up with clients and educate, consult and advise them. This is the ultimate freedom I wanted in my life. Less work, less stress and more time to enjoy the life. No matter where I travel, I operate the business at my fingertips.

For all the people out there who’s frustrated, don’t give up. Be patient, research and work hard. Keep learning and keep practicing and one day you’ll get to your freedom. Cheers!

With Fiverr, were you more frustrated with the workload or the low-quality customers? I've had a few $1200 months on Fiverr but I struggled not to rip my hair out dealing with customers.

Mostly workload. My gig worked because I completed & delivered orders within 24 hours. Handling customers can be hard I agree. If you get a decent amount of orders, what you should do is ask them to contact you before they order the gig. Mention that in the gig description so you can filter out people who you think you can work with and not work with.

Congratulations my friend.
I like this line ' I invested in myself ' which I feel is something a lot of people don't do, don't think about doing or don't consider worthwhile doing.

Keep focused, be level headed moving forward and you'll do fine in life.

Thank you so much! Means a lot to me. Back then we had limited resources to learn new skills but hunger to go the distance. Nowadays, every information and skills are laid out in the internet but nobody have the hunger to learn. Thanks again! :)

Right. Today we have so much information to learn - - even good free resources but some people prefer spending their time playing games , wataching fucking movies all day all night. And then they cry because their income is shitty. You should never stop learning in life. I think problem today we have so much info in so many domains and people just get too confused on what is the best thing to do and just wait for that * perfect * moment to start. When they feel ready. When ? Never ! just fking take action -dont take courses and then do nothing. Learn but then start to apply.. Some stay on learning phase for years or forever . Perfect time to start is now. Don't know anythig ? Go f'ck udemy all day learn what interest you. If you are poor just download courses from torrent sites . Lots of free resources.

Great story.
Thanks for the inspiration, I'll keep this thread in mind every time I might want to give up.
We're a bit different, (at least for the moment) you were dreaming about freedom and I'm dreaming about working, haha.
This is my last year of high school, maybe my story will sound like yours when I'll enter college.

Fantastic journey, I'm sure it'll help so many of newcomers here. Well said, the key to success is to gain experience and recognize when to grow out of your shell. At the right time of course.

Couldn’t agree more. People are hungry for money but they are not hungry for self development.

Great read! Congratulations for your success and to be persistent in achieving your goals..

Keep hustling and keep growing :)

Thank you so much. :) It’s always good to invest on yourself. You’ll learn, practice, fail and learn from it again. As far as you consider that failing is a part of learning, you’d reach your goals. Good luck!

I love your story, in fact as I started as a freelancer myself. I was into coding since I was 11, I learned web development and web design and like you frustrated as a newbie in websites like freelancer my real work started with fiverr. And I reached the point where I would turn down 2/3 of the orders I received everyday. Eventually my account died out and I couldn't start over especially with fiverr (low quality clients and payments). Now I'm onto internet marketing so i'm only working as a freelancer from time to time. I'm planning to start my own business in the near future after I gather the required skills and money.

Glad you liked it. My advice to you is never depend on one income. Nothing lasts forever. Since you have the skills, you should plan and start a business. Don’t fully rely on internet to find business leads. Start from your local area. Good luck to you!
